I think Tupac/Biggie are overrated the same way I think a ton of legends (rap and sports alike) are overrated. Because they're no longer putting out music, and they were the best back in the day, people automatically still give them the benefit of the doubt of being the best now. I am not one of those people.

Forgot about these two, but you can mark me down as another person that liked Lasers and listens to it more than Lupe's other stuff; and I'm a big fan of B.o.B (though his newest CD was pretty disappointing to me in comparison to his mixtapes and his first CD).NFL: Bills
NBA: Bucks
MLB: Cubs

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Well who today even stacks up to them? Jay, Em, and.....? I just think that's a big time misuse of the word "overrated" when referring to this topic in particular. No chance in hell are two of the greatest to ever touch mics "overrated". I don't care how much time has passed by.
Haha, there are plenty rappers out today who **** on all of these "greats" technically; they just don't get the recognition. It's impossible to make an all-time "greats" list when you haven't heard every rapper who has ever lived.
Anyone who says a rapper is the greatest of all time is overrating him 99.9% of the time.Comment

Em is the best out of the four, and he's not even in my top 20 favorite rappers.

.
I would love to see the full list of 20 people you can come up with that'd even deserve to be mentioned in the same thought as any of the classics. And yes, those four and others mentioned in this thread are classic, all time greats whether you've listened to every rapper out there or not.Comment

Not a single person you have ever posted would even be allowed to wash the **** off the shoes of Em, Jay, Tupac, Biggie, etc.

GZA
Nas
Max B
K-Rino
Z-Ro
Aesop Rock
Lil Flip
Plies
Jay Electronica
MF DOOM
Young Dro
Blu
Earl Sweatshirt
Young Jeezy
Lauryn Hill
Curren$y
RZA
Hurricane Chris
Lecrae
Danny Brown
Meh, just a rough list. Em and Biggie may crack in there on some days. Tupac and Jay just bore me. Sorry.
DOOM, Aesop Rock, Nas, RZA, Earl, and Blu are actually better than Jay, Pac, and Biggie technically. With Em, you could argue.Comment

When you say Tupac actually lived the things that he talked about, you mean that he witnessed those things, right?Comment

Biggie/Pac were ahead of the game. They're style of rap was the stepping stone for (good) artists today. However, as Fly alluded to, when you actually break down the talents of Biggie/Pac, while good, there are better rappers out. Can we all agree that Biggie was not lyrical? Good. Biggie was great because of his flow, plain and simple. Now for Pac it's a little harder to top, but it can be done. Better wordsmith? Los. More poetic? Wale. In tuned with society's issues? Wale/J. Cole. When you break down the technical skill of rappers, and how they compare to other rappers, you'll find that the "Greatest of all time" list becomes a lot harder to put together. Are there better examples of rappers who are better than Pac in certain aspects than Los, Wale, and J. Cole? I'm sure, but these 3 certainly come to mind.Comment

Who do you think you are? This is a public forum; opinions will clash. Branding someone ignorant for the fact that you can't wrap your head around his/her thought process is actually pretty ignorant in itself.
But yeah, keep keep preaching to me on how I need to find a good male role model and bringing me up to speed on the state of America's youth.Comment
