By the way he went about announcing and releasing the album, I don't think he cares much about a hit single. Excited to give it a listen.

PARTYNEXTDOOR just blessed us with 4 new songs in honor of his tour:

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Not that it should come as a surprise but I'm loving 2014 Forest Hills Drive. I cracked and had to listen to the leak.
I don't know where it's going to rank among Friday Night Lights, The Warm Up and Born Sinner yet. I do think this is his strongest effort when it comes to production though. The drums are on point throughout the whole album. I still think lyrically he was at his best on The Warm Up but as far as his studio albums go, I think this might be his best in that regard.
There's definitely a lack of that Power Trip, Crooked Smile, Work Out single so I don't know how much staying power the album is going to have. No Role Modelz is my **** though. I can't stop playing that one. Lots of great moments throughout (the George Bush clip, "she shaaaalooooww", etc) I think that's the one that will actually end up being the single but we'll see. Fire Squad is nice too. That and A Tale of 2 Citiez reminds me of some Makavelli era Pac with how they sound. Love it. Also, Wet Dreamz is basically the virgin anthem lol. It's dope though and it's nice to hear it since it was a song that's been in the works going back to Sideline Story.
Overall, I'm happy with what's been put out here and I'm definitely buying the physical copy on Tuesday.
There's a part of me that wants Cole to switch things up for an album and get in the studio with some big name producers just to see what could happen. Like if he went the Nas/Common route and did a whole album with No ID, I'd probably lose my damn mind. That being said he's definitely come into his own and is carving out his lane in the game, which is cool to see.
And as good as the album is, I'm still left wanting more considering it's only technically 12 tracks (yes, I listened to all 14 minutes of Note To Self, lol) so hopefully there's some more stuff in the works sooner rather than later.Last edited by BlueNGold; 12-06-2014, 01:32 PM.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Am I wrong in saying that Gambino's Kauai is like... some of the best stuff he's put out? I mean, not even Jaden Smith ruins it.
Retro is just so, so good.

It's going to be tough to top BTI (which it doesn't), but Kauai is definitely a dope effort. Loving the secret 3005 remix. That has been on repeat for a while.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Where should I start with J Cole since I haven't giving him a fair shake?
Jano I didn't listen to either one. I kind of stopped looking, so I am sure I missed some good music this year and last and probably the year before.Comment
