Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Buying the novel today. I hope to actually see the movie once more before reading it, especially since I want to read it when I'm on vacation (from this Saturday till mid-August).Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

SpoilerHis take on the Robin reveal. Do people not realize it literally has nothing to do with the film and is purely an Easter egg for fans and for people like me that thought Nolan would beer out Robin in a film because there were supposed quotes that he wouldn't (which don't actually exist). It doesn't change his character or his involvement or his future at all. He'd be his version of Batman after he found the Cave, not some dude running around in red tights. Just don't get that extreme criticism from the reviewer.
Aside from that it's a pretty spot on review from my perspective as well.Last edited by Beantown; 07-24-2012, 01:43 PM.Comment

Only thing I didn't agree with at all was:

I thought the name reveal was a bit too on the nose, especially for Nolan. Especially since Batman was training essentially and they even fought together at the end with a nice little SIDE KICK moment.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Slash Film's 15 Things That Bothered Us
And I thought Jmood and 13 were being nitpicky, but damn.
I hate attempting to conjecture things in a real world, logical manner when its a movie involving a guy dressing up as a Bat, riding in a tank that hops across rooftops, and etc etc.
I really liked it. I'm going to go back and watch it again. I watched it at IMAX and had a difficult time understanding the dialogue because of all the surround music.
All in all, I thought Nolan did a great job with the trilogy. I wouldn't call it my favorite trilogy, but it's in the top 5.Comment

SpoilerI think that was the point though. There was very little subtlety in the movie...he could've left the name out an everyone would've still been saying "Is that Robin?!" So instead he just said "Almost everyone everywhere said I would never put Robin in the movie, so here you go bitches." The sheer "Got you," overt reveal was made it awesome to me.Comment

The guys in here won't take it for more than it is, but you know a lot of the audience will take that as a conjecture that Blake does become Robin at the end.
Don't get me wrong, a little part of me enjoyed it so I know where you're coming from.

No, Blake is not and will not become a Robin figure. He will become Batman. I mean the title shows right at the end of the film, and is almost always resembling of the last shot as well. Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Well, I bought the book, and I couldn't resist to at least read the "prologue" (that which would ring similarly to the film). I'll type out an excerpt that shouldn't spoil anything but a description of Bane's mask, which we've seen forever now:
Dark eyes gleamed above an intimidating dark blue mask that concealed the bottom half of the man's face, covering his nose, mouth, and chin. The mask, made of rubber with riveted metal components, was held there in part by a thick vertical strap that bisected the mercenary's brow and hairless cranium. Two rows of coiled steel breathing tubes ran above and below some sort of built-in inhaler that covered the man's mouth. It gave his face a vaguely skull-like appearance. Pipes ran along the edges of the mask to a pair of miniature canisters at the back of his skull. Air hissed as he breathed. No sign of fear showed in the man's piercing eyes. He spoke calmly, and with complete assurance.
The other good thing is, while it seems to follow the film closely (and share a lot of its dialogue), I feel like it also has "extended dialogue," as in this could be close to what the film's original cut was like, for instance. Always good to see what was "left out," so to speak.Last edited by Blzer; 07-24-2012, 04:01 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

A novel with this kind of description should hopefully be able to resolve most of this film's plot holes, which might be reason enough to read it. I can't wait to get through it, but again, chances are I won't for another two weeks or so just to get some reading time on vacation.

Yeah I read an article on NukeTheFridge.com that will address the Joker and his whereabouts's that we didn't get to see in the film.
SpoilerScheduled to be released today on-line and in bookstores, the 415 page The Dark Knight Rises: The Official Novelization by author Greg Cox delves into the Jonathan and Christopher Nolan screenplay a little closer. Original rumors had Heath Ledger’s Joker make a cameo via unused footage from 2008′s “The Dark Knight,” but it panned out as such. Warner Bros. Studio later confirmed it was just a rumor. Cox provides better details and lets fans know about the shady and ambiguous fate of the Joker. Here is the exact quote from the novel by bwims22 at the IMDb boards.
“Now that the Dent Act had made it all but impossible for the city’s criminals to cop an insanity plea, it (Blackgate Prison) had replaced Arkham Asylum as a preferred location for imprisoning both convicted and suspected felons. The worst of the worst were sent here, except for the Joker, who, rumor had it, was locked away as Arkham’s sole remaining inmate. Or perhaps he had escaped. Nobody was really sure. Not even Selina.”
Remember Selina Kyle (Catwoman) was held at Blackgate Prison for a short time. By using her feminine wiles, she would have had ample opportunity to find out from other inmates the location or whereabouts of the Joker.
From a historical standpoint, Adolf Hitler’s Deputy Leader of the Nazi Party Rudolph Hess was convicted and sentenced to life in Spandau Prison on Oct. 1, 1946. He was the sole occupant from 1966 until his apparent suicide in 1987. By applying this form of punishment to Nolan’s Joker, there would be no one to talk to or play with. Thus, driving the ‘Man Who Laughs’ completely insane.“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
