Here's their videogame closeouts. And it's laughable.

Systems (360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP) and their respective games - 5% off
All game accessories (controllers, batteries, cases, Xbox Live memberships, etc) - 10% off
"Social" games (aka Rockband and Guitar Hero) - 10% off
PC Games - 10% off
Strategy guides and cheat books - 20% off

All they probably did was move a majority of their inventory to other stores.

MAYBE you'll find a good deal here and there but it's nothing close to a fire sale at these places apparently. They're just closing stores.

Starbucks did it... and you didn't see them giving away free coffee.

Exactly. If every store was going, you'd see some deals, but what's not sold will just be moved. I don't think we'll see any better deals except on open box items which I won't buy anyway.

I don't really care for CC (only time I go is for low prices or sales). Customer service is "eh" but it might be, because I can never find a worker.

From what I thought I read, most stores are staying open through the end of the year, though from reading a post above, that may not be true in all cases.

While I don't disagree they will ship inventory to other stores, the deals in these types of events will progressivly get better as they near their actual close data. No sense to give everything away at 50% off when you can get rid of it at 5,10 aned 20% off.

In some cases it may be cheaper to ship the goods to a local store and in others it may be cheaper to knock down the prices. Depending on the item, they are probably not going to want to carry a lot of inventory on slow moving items as they will just have to markdown the price anyway when the new stuff comes in. So better to mark it down now at the closing store than to ship it to another store, have it take up space in the back and then eventually mark it down anyway.

Looks like they are taking the Compusa approach.

They have a link to a blog with any deals you find. Basically they have started by increasing the price and then giving you say 5-10% off, so it comes out to be the same price as it was. This will continue for a few days, but being that the stores will be open until the end of the year, or the employees will be paid until then, the deals might not come for a while.

the store here had the same markdowns. they did have some good deals on the floor model tv`s. i just wonder if they will mark stuff down even lower

I'm not surprised.

When my wife and I were shopping for laptops we obviously found the cheapest best ones at Circuit City. After being there for 20 minutes and getting no help we went and found the Apple guy that was working. Since I was interested in an HP computer he told me he couldn't help. He said we needed the HP guy. But the HP guys was busy so he told us we had to wait for one of the few Circuit City people working that day. So, we went to customer service and they said they were too busy to help us but that someone would be there as quick as possible. After being in the store for a little over an hour my wife and I just left. We stood around in the laptop department for 40 minutes and got no help. As we walked out I let the guy at the customer service counter with the 'Manager' name badge that he just lost $1500 in sales. He asked what I was talking about and I told him that I was told 40 minutes ago by one of his employees that someone would be over to help me ASAP but I never saw anyone. He asked me what he could help me find and I told him that I had just found what I was looking for, the exit door, and we turned around and walked out.

We proceeded to drive over to Best Buy and I had my laptop back at home within a couple of hours. As soon as we walked into the store I was helped from introduction till the end of purchase. Did I pay a couple of hundred more? Yes. Did I stand around for over an hour and have to entice the employees to help me and get a sale? No.

Some people don't mind paying a bit more if there's less of a hassle. Circuit City doesn't get that and they're paying for it now.

Oh Well.

...which is odd because the people at Circuit City ARE on commission and the people at Best Buy are NOT.
