I may have been seeing things, but I thought I saw him breathing in the trailer to next week.

Anyway, if he's dead, and the 2007 isn't that would prove that we are on a different "path" now.

If they are on the same path, he probably knew this was coming and has a bullet proof vest on somehow, I didn't see an exit wound.

Either way, this is will answer some questions in the following weeks.

Exactly... I thought I noticed the same thing, he will probably either be saved medically or the island will not let him die like it wouldn't let Michael or Locke

Regardless it sets up a lot of interesting things to come

Wow, that was just a stupid ending. Good episode straight through to the end. You KNOW they won't be able to adequately explain how Sayid can kill li'l Ben and still have big Ben around...

But if Locke went back in time and told Alpert where he could find him, and now Alpert acts on that, hasn't history been changed?

Take Locke's flashback when he met Alpert as a child.....

Did that flashback occur because Locke told Alpert when & where to find him?

I say yes because the way Locke phrased his talk. He told Alpert where Alpert could find him as a child. He didn't say to Alpert, "We'll meet when I'm a child".

                  See what I'm saying?
I see what you're saying but that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that he didn't go back and change the past by telling Alpert where to find him. That was supposed to happen. It always happened in 1954. When we watched Lost for the first time and it was 2003, Locke had already met Alpert in 1954. When we see Locke do it on our television screen, that's Locke experiencing what he already did.

Anyway, that's moot because if little Ben is dead then that definitely means that they aren't living past events, but instead living in a different time line.

I still don't think Ben is dead. It creates way too huge of a paradox. Now I'm trying to think if we ever saw Ben complain about chest pain or something similar. Because if he ever did, that would be awesome.

I'm thinking it's Sayid shooting young Ben is what helps shape Ben into what he becomes... in a twist of irony, the very thing Sayid thinks he is stopping by "killing" young Ben, actually happens because of this

It would be interesting to see present Ben at the same instant Young Ben was shot and he'd just randomly clutch his chest or something like he was having a heart attack.

See, this is exactly what I'm saying about thinking that you're changing the past. All they are doing is making it all happen as it is supposed to. For all we know, this makes Ben rebel against his people and plan the Purge.

Of course, this is assuming that Ben isn't dead.

why would ben go against his people when Sayid is a supposed "hostile?" wouldn't this make Ben more cautious of the hostiles?

That's exactly what I'm thinking also.. remember the list back at the end of season 2 Michael had, Jack,Kate,Hurley,Sawyer... all 4 are back in with Dharma, young Ben had met them all in the past.

Not if the "hostiles" are the ones that save his life.

Ben is a liar, but I do like the one thing he said. He once claimed that unlike other people, he was born on the Island.

When you think about Ben and his shift as a person, this really wasn't a lie at all. He was reborn on the Island. I'm not sure if that's connected to these events, but I just thought that was a cool comment by him.
