    DIRECTV

I am thinking about making the switch back...lol

A few questions. When I first got it around 10 years ago, you only got one receiver and had to pay extra, can you get mutliple receivers now? How much is the start up cost? Do you have to still buy the dish as well or it's part of the package? Do you pay extra for multiple DVR's?

What channel package do you all use and how much a month do you pay?

Since I have Time Warner right now, I get internet through them as well. If I switch, is there a better internet service you guys would recommend?

    Thanks!

    Re: DIRECTV

My father has it and pays over $110 a month. He has one HD box, three regular boxes and one regular DVR. He also has the sports package.

I absolutely love it, if it wasn't so expensive I'd get it in a heartbeat over Comcast. There is way more HD, I laugh every time I see those Comcast commercials claiming they have more HD than DirecTV.

It is heaven during college football and basketball season, there are so many games on (in HD too) that I don't get with Comcast. But again, $110 is loudicris at this time in my life.

DTV has totally changed from 10 years ago. Before you owned all your equipment. Now everything is leased & must be returned upon cancellation of service.

Any equipment you get during installation is FREE, but again you don't own it & yes you have to pay an installation fee. As for Internet & phone service DTV doesn't directly offer these. They out source these services thru a 3rd party.

Unlike Cable you pay for their HD Service, but their DVR Service I believe cost less than what Cable is & YES you pay seperately for each DVR you own..

Each receiver costs $5 per month. If you have a DVR in the house that costs $5 per month as well, but only one charge. Add that to the package you want and there you have it.

Looks like they have good deals on packages right now, $23 off of each package. I miss NFL Sunday Ticket so much. Not being able to watch the Niners games drives me nuts, but in the end, not sure if I want to pay that much at this time of my life.

You can get the regular package, HD, DVR for about $40-45 a month + $4.99 per extra receiver for 1 year. You will have to pay for the receivers, but you are actually leasing them. HD DVR is $199, but they will give you one free and if you want a 2nd one, you could talk them down to $99 or less.

i have one regular converter and one hd.
i had to get the choice xtra package, plus the sports pack in order to get NESNHD and NHL network hd.

i didnt have to pay anything for 2 months because they messed up the install.
I pay around $80 a month now though.

But i think after the 3 months it will go up

Does DTV have any plans on having a DVR that controls 2 TVs like Dish does?

I pay 70 a month. 1 HD box and 2 regular boxes. I just have local/hd channels and the regular ones. That plenty of channels.

I also get Sunday Ticket. I have for the past 10 years though. lol

I had Dish, it was great but they canceled their affiliation with ATT so I went with DirecTV, terrible.

I don't like the fact that you have to pay a steep fee to cancel. I wanted U-Verse but I didn't find out it was in my area til 3 days after I had DTV.

DTV wouldn't let me outta my contract even after I bitched. Sucks but once I get some extra loot, Ill cancel this trash.

                      Good luck..

Its not controlling 2 tvs. Its sending a signal to the other tv and the other remote is just controlling the 2nd tuner on the receiver. What you get is 1 tuner per TV instead of 2 per TV. DVR has no plans to do this as far as I know. You would have to get another receiver.

DTV now has MRV (Multi-room viewing) in testing now for its CE users. If your DVRs are networked, you can watch any program you recorded on any receiver on another receiver (currenly on H2? and HR20s).

                          What is wrong?

You have 3 days to cancel any contract depending on your state laws, but 3 is usually standard. Uverse has the same termination fees as does Dish network.

Probably will just stay with cable, since I want high speed as well and don't want to pay much more than $100 a month on cable/internet service.
