Yeah, but with both HD receivers I'll be able to record and watch the recorded shows, right?

We got a standard receiver in my daughters room because the only time she really watches TV in there is at night when she lays down and in the morning when she wakes up.

There's a new receiver? I got a HR-24 last year, is there a new model out now? I have a couple HR-21s that I'd like to update one of them.

                Re: DIRECTV

HR24 is the latest main DVRs.

HR34 is a new whole house DVR that has I think 5 tuners or something like that.

Unless you buy the HR24 yourself, DTV will not guarantee what you will get.

It's a staggered release. Their is a schedule on the DTV site. I don't think I get it until 24th b

We have yet to get ours, but I hope we get it ASAP. The old GUI has such terrible lag.

We recently upgraded to a second HD DVR, but they sent us a crap refurb that is even older than the one we already have. It sounds like a jet engine and it makes me angry when I'm trying to sleep. lol

January 19th is my date according to the schedule. I just figured I'd have it if fishepa did since we're only a 100 miles apart. Thanks.

Has anyone tried a DVR Expander before?

I just bought one, but didn't read enough into it before realizing I may lose my previous recordings once I connect and format the DVR Expander. I called DirecTV, and the girl talked to her supervisor and said that you wouldn't lose your information until/unless you unplug it. This link though kind of says otherwise, and it's concerning:

                                ...

When your receiver reboots, it will automatically see the newly-connected hard drive. The hard drive inside your receiver will be disabled.

You now have expanded recording capacity. With a 1TB hard drive, you can record up to 200 hours of HD programming.

Because the content on the external drive is paired with the HD DVR receiver it’s connected to, you will have to reformat the external drive if you want to connect it to a different HD DVR receiver. Reformatting means you will lose the recordings you made with the original HD DVR receiver.

                                ...
So I'm a bit lost on it and it's a bit scary to just "test out," because I have nearly 100 hours of recorded material on this thing as is and I obviously don't want to/can't lose it all. I'm trying to read other testimonials and reviews, but none of them really account for people who already have recordings on their original device. Based on the bold, it doesn't sound like it increases storage unless you buy an HDD larger than what's in your receiver. It sounds like it just replaces it, which is kind of messed up IMO. I'd rather just replace what's on the inside, you know?

Anyway, the other thing the customer service rep said was the recordings may now be inaccessible to watch on my GenieGO, which would be a shame as well. Maybe this was just all for naught, which kind of sucks because now I might have to return this.

Thanks for those who might be able to help with any experience on this.
