call back and tell them to check the unsupported box ... tell them you were in the beta and it was working fine ... they won't help you if you are having problems though

Go online to the DirecTV forums. There's step by step instructions on how to get it setup via email. Worked like a charm for me. I was pissed when I learned I would have to pay 150$ for equipment and 100$ for a service call to my house for new lines.

I've been hooked up and haven't had zero problems with my own networked setup.

            Re: DIRECTV

Over a two years later and we finally made the switch. DIRECTV will be installed this Saturday.

We went with the Choice Extra package ($34.99 for first year). Got an HD/DVR receiver, an HD Receiver and a standard receiver. We went with the Home DVR set up as well. Used a referral and will knock out $10 for 10 months. We were paying $140 a month for basic cable (DVR and HD) and internet with Time Warner. We are going to save almost $40 a month (first year) switching to DIRECTV

Keeping Road Runner internet, but downgrading to a $39.99 package. Which is 3 MBPS (I hope that's fast enough for gaming)

A few DIRECTV questions - Which receivers will they give me, are there specific ones we should have asked for? Also, I see no signs of the referral credit online, even under rebates, but they said that would take place until our 2nd months bill. Should I bet worried they didn't add it?

Unless they have a newer HD receiver, you'll want the HR-24. It is faster and has a bigger hard drive than the HR-21. Having all your DVRs networked together is the best thing ever. I have 3 DirecTV DVRs in the house so that gives me the option to record 6 things at the same time which is so awesome, especially at this time of the year with all the new shows coming on. I'm assuming you got NFL Sunday Ticket as well since you are a new customer, hopefully you'll enjoy that.

I wanted to get another DVR when we signed on for 2 more years, but my girlfriend wouldn't let me. It would come in handy, especially on days like Monday where I have 5-8 shows to record.

So I need to call and ask for specific receiver?

Do you all have the protection plan and do you all recommend it? Some say it's a $70 service fee if you don't have the protection plan.

Every time I asked for a specific receiver they told me that I'll get what the technician has. So I bought a HR-24 off the internet when I wanted to upgrade to it. Couldn't hurt to ask though, the HR-42 might be the standard now.

I don't have the protection plan, but I never spring for those things.

The only way to get a better reciever is to threaten to cancel. Directv is a bunch of idiots unless they think they are going to lose your money.

Seem to be faster to me. I have the HR-24 and the older model HR-10 I think? and the 24 is boat loads faster in general.

Yeah it its much faster. I have one HR-24 and two HR-21s and it its very knows robert the 24s are superior, but like I said I had to buy mine online, but that was a year ago.

Your standard receiver will not be able to use the Whole Home DVR, so you will only be able to watch live TV on it. The HD receiver will be able to watch and record shows on the DVR.

I'm paying $120.00 a month with DTV. This includes my programming package with local channels. HD extra pack. Showtime, HBO, and Starz. I also have 1 HD DVR and 3 HD receivers with the whole home package so I can watch shows recorded on my HD DVR on any other Receiver. During football season my bill increases for 5 months to pay for NFL Sunday Ticket.

A lot of money , but if you watch a lot of TV like my wife and I do it's well worth it. Everything I watch is now in HD.
