It's on my list, you're not the first person to mention this to me...

I will say that the movies this year seem a bit more approachable for people compared to other years. "The English Patient" and stuff like that just seem way more artsy. Milk was a great movie, Benjamin Button seems more mainstream, etc...At least I've heard of a lot of these whereas some years it's movies people barely know.

No Best Picture or Best Director for Dark Knight. Terrible.

And Clint got snubbed too. No Bruce either.

Gran Torino was a terrible movie. I'm glad he didn't get nominated.

The costumes are some of the most realistic portrayals of something I've never seen in my life.

Slumdog will win, but I think Milk was a little better (slumdog was a bit too predictable)

Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke both deserve the award for best actor.

Benjamin Button does not deserve best picture. Very overrated film IMO.

Biggest Snub: Bruce Springsteen's The Wrestler not getting nominated. Are you kidding?? The best movie song Ive heard in a very long time.

                          Re: Oscars 2009

I'm fine with the Dark Knight being left out of a lot of the major categories. I would have been happy to see Nolan gets some recognition or for the film to get a best picture nomination, but the only snub I see is that it was left off of best score. I didn't hear a better score in any of those movies nominated.

I'm quite puzzled by The Reader. It's one of those love it or hate it movies, I don't think its anything special. Why it got a best picture nomination over Revolutionary Road, Dark Knight, or Wall-e (screw that lame animation category, Wall-e was one of the five best films released in 2008) is beyond me. And to add further confusion to the mix is the fact that every institute I've seen hand out awards this year has credited Winslett with a best supporting actress award for it, but here the Academy has her for the lead.

I agree with you sva91, Springsteen not getting nominated for "The Wrestler" is also one of the biggest snubs here. Two nominations from Slumdog, neither of which is superior, in my eyes (and ears).

I just don't get the obsession by the Academy with Benjamin Button. To me it was always a concept best left as a concept, it just didn't work for me as a fleshed-out film. It would be a huge mistake for it to win Best Picture or for Pitt and Fincher to come away with hardware.

As a final note, I felt Rourke's performance was the most believable in that I wasn't watching Mickey Rourke play Randy "The Ram," I was just watching "The Ram" do his thing. I hope he gets the award because he was the best in 2008.

I agree with you on Wall-E, I wish it would've been put in the Best Picture category.

Dark Knight being snubbed: WRONG.COM. And the eventual winner of Best Picture will have a virtual asterisk beside it because it didn't compete against TDK. No Bruce. No watch from anybody except the relatives of the nominees. But we do have Melissa F'N Leo and Richard F'n Jenkins representing movies that weren't seen by 99% of the U.S. population. So at least we have that.

I think Leo should've gotten a nod for Best Actor, and TDK should've gotten a nod for Best Picture, but oh well.

I hope Mickey takes the Best Actor award; he deserves every little bit of it. The Wrestler is the only movie that had me teary eyed in the end.
