I thought it was an good movie, but in a campy way. A nomination would have been a joke.

Wow lol. Completely disagree but to each his own I guess. Movie isn't for everyone.

You batfans need to get over it. Best picture? Geez. The movie was not that good. Neither was Benjamin Button though, and I am surprised to see it nominated. The same goes for Pitt. He's one of my favorite actors but me being the plain on dude on the internet didn't see anything too great in this particular performance. In my opinion, Blanchett was the stand out. I guess it's a down year.

Weird seeing RDJ nominated for Tropic Thunder....doesn't seem like Ledger will have much competition to get his award. That and Wall-E seem like the locks of the night.

Of the best actor nominees looks to me to be a two man race between Rourke and Langella. Those were two great performances, personally I am rooting for the Ram.

I agree with Mistfit about Wall-E. It was a great film, period, and definitely in my top 5 of 08. Just seems silly to me for Kung Fu Panda and Bolt to be mentioned with it.

Whats funny to me though, is that a movie like Dream Girls (horrible imo and deserves little to none of the praise it got across the board) got so much hype and love, yet Caddilac Records got none. Caddilac Records wasn't great, but it was much better that Dream Girls, and I think Beyonce did a better job in it than Hudson did in DG and I am a big fan of both.

I need to catch a few of these though. Never heard of The Reader, but heard some good things about Slumdog Millionaire.

As a movie, I think it was average, but besides Eastwood the acting was terrible. I just watched it again yesterday and I can't say enough about how bad it was.
        PS: You guys are great.

How is this a valid complaint? The People's Choice award exists for this. There's already an award where popularity counts...Shouldn't there be an award that is based solely on someone's idea of quality (even if it's subjective and, as a result, wrong some of the time)?

I agree that the nominations this year are questionable, but why pick on those nominations? They're two of the few ones I can get completely behind. Frozen River and The Visitor were both great. Neither deserve BP, but they were perfect choices for Best Actor nominations.

          My lame opinions...

TDK/Nolan should have been nominated for BP/Director (and won). Frost/Nixon is the only film chosen that would be in my preferred five.

Sally Hawkins should have been nominated for Best Actress and is the 2nd biggest snub behind TDK/Nolan.

          Rourke should win.

Gran Torino is my 2nd favorite movie of the year, but the only nomination it deserves is Best Actor.

TDK not getting nominated for best picture/director - fine with me. However, I definitely think it was a snub in the Best Score category.

It was absolutely released in the US (and Canada). Countries are only allowed to submit one entry for a Best Foreign Language Film nomination, and Sweden inexplicably chose to submit another film. Shame, because Let the Right One In was a fantastic movie.

I totally agree on Sally Hawkins. That was a huge snub.

Gran Torino was a good movie but Clint was just playing his typical bad *** role. Its the same as what Denzel, Will, Deniro and Pacino do in most roles. Clint already got an Oscar for playing Clint in Unforgiven so I'm glad he didnt get a nom.

Not an educated opinion because I didn't see "Milk" but I would like to see Brolin get the nod over Ledger in The Best Supporting Actor category, because I thought he was robbed by not even getting nominated for No Country For Old Men.

Unfortunately that won't happen. You can pretty much go ahead and give Ledger the award right now.

Eastwood actually didn't win the Oscar for acting in Unforgiven, he won it for Best Director.

Yeah, I'm totally biased on this one though. I guess I don't have a normal sense of humor. His character just hit all of the right notes for me...humor wise. I was literally on the edge of my seat waiting to hear the next ridiculous thing he would say.

He produced the film too so he is credited with another for the Best Picture win.
