Oh and my partner wore here prescription glasses to Avatar and the 3D glasses fit right over them and she loved the 3D quality, with no complaints about anything glasses related.
So if we kept the glasses from the theater, they wouldn't work on a DVD or Blu-ray release version?

That's one thing I wondered after I saw Avatar, how would it look on blu-ray/dvd. Personally I can't see myself liking this movie in a standard format, I would need the 3D to really round out the experience of avatar.

I was the exact opposite. This was the first movie I've ever been incredibly happy to see humans getting killed in.

Oh and as for "favorite" moments of the movie:

I want to echo the sentiments that this movie made me feel like a kid again. I remember watching Batman, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars for the first time and wanting to be in those movies (ie: wish they were real). When I was walking out from Avatar with my friend he said he wished it was real and all I could do was agree with him because I was thinking the very same thing.

they recently finalized the bluray 3d specs, but you will need a 120hz TV to watch 3D stuff anyways. All 3D Blu-Ray discs that come out will also have the regular 2D version on them too if you lack the hardware.

Not like it matters much, as there's little chance that Fox actually puts proper 3D support in the first home release of Avatar. Fox is gonna milk this bitch. It's doubtful they put out a anaglyph (red/blue glasses) version, but they hinted at a true stereoscopic 3D version at some point.

That's a good point. Definitely got that feeling after the movie.

I'm getting super geeked out with this movie now. Bah! Just put in an order for Avatar: A Confidential Report on the Biological and Social History of Pandora

Saw it today and enjoyed it for the most part, there were a few cheesy moments in the movie that I could have done without but other then that no real complaints. I do think that this movie was built up a little too much before I went and saw it however as it didnt impress me to the lengths that it did others here and that might be due to my expectations being too high.

                  re: James Cameron's "Avatar"

This movie is making crazy cash. The worldwide total now stands at $726m, and it surpassed The Dark Knight's whole overseas gross in like 13 days. It should be over $1b by the end of this weekend.

There won't be much out to push it off of 3d screens, even if it loses 2d screens, plus there's the pricier tickets. Cameron will likely have the top two grossing movies ever...

Are you sure all we need is 120hz TV's/Monitors to watch these 'real' 3D versions at home?

I've read Panasonic are releasing 3D capable plasma's in 2010 that are more than double the price of current models.

I don't get it? I'm sure the 3D we saw in Avatar requires a special screen?

Wow - didn't know such things were out there. I've seen the movie twice and still kinda want to see the damn thing again. What Cameron did in terms of creating this entire alien world and making you feel immersed in it is amazing

Saw it on IMAX 3D last night. Social and political commentaries not withstanding, the movie itself was just a pure experience. You totally get immersed into the world. Visually stunning, storyline was 'meh' but it was good enough to keep you interested. I think I'll have to watch it again.

I actually saw this movie tuesday in an IMAX theatre and I must say it is visually stunning. The story however dissapointed me since I could not get into the whole "white guilt" social theme that they just throw at you the whole movie (I'm black by the way). It actually made me dislike the movie every time they through that social historic message out there in the way the story moved. I tried not to let it bother me, but if only they didn't push it so hard I would have enjoyed it better.

If only they made the humans interest in retrieving the minerals meant life and death in their world and not just monetary needs, then it would have been more enjoyable. However the villains were too villainy. I understand the message but they pushed it so hard into making the humans totally unsympathetic.

Oh yeah, this is a fully fleshed out world. You can find any information about Pandora that you would about earth. And you can learn to speak Na'vi too.

I think they had to make it based on monetay needs so that the humans appeared greedy and could be hated by the audience. If Cameron's goal was to get us to side with and feel compassion for the Na'vi, he had to make the humans appear bad and hateable.

Not sure those emotions would have been triggered if there was compassion shared with humans who were mearly trying to survive.

I don't know if the audience responds as well if they have to pick a side, their going to end up being angry with one side or the other. Would have been an interesting take, but maybe not as audience friendly.
