Date Night. I give it an 8/10. It ended up being fairly decent considering it wasn't the one we had planned to see.

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Batman Forever: Pure ****. About as ****ty as a movie can be. Jim Carrey gives one of the most annoying performances I have ever seen. Strike that. THE MOST annoying performance I have ever seen. I almost get the feeling every one of his lines had the stage direction of "Do this line like you're a crack addicted flamboyant homosexual". Val Kilmer was the very definition of boring. And the opening scene with the bank vault had the most unintentionally hilarious performance by an actor ever. Kudos to the guy that played the bank guard, because "Oh no! IT'S BOILING ACID!!!" is going into my daily lexicon of words to use.
The only redeeming quality this movie has is Nicole Kidman. And not her acting, just that you get to spend 2 hours looking at her.Last edited by Bellsprout; 05-02-2010, 02:49 AM.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Surrogates
A very forgettable 90 minutes, kind of like Armored was. There were notable actors just by seeing their faces (namely Bruce Willis), but it kind of makes you wonder if this is all he's really able to do anymore. Not that he really did anything of incredible substance before, but this was just a very B-rate movie.
If this was some sort of message about how people would rather be lazy and live vicariously through their robotic counterparts, well... we've seen messages before, and normally that ends up being the talk of the movie. If there's something to talk about at the end, this would be it.
I thought it was kind of cool how wooden the actors had to be during their performances as robots, though. Made me think Keanu Reeves and Cillian Murphy would have made good robots along with Bruce Willis.
Glad I only rented it. The Blu-ray is nothing stellar either. Way too much black crush and digitalization (but I think it has to do with making people look like robots), and the bass would only kick in during some scenes and just wasn't apparent during others, which was kind of weird (sound was good otherwise). Not exactly demo material, though there are some good scenes to show off I suppose.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

The Goods
Thought it was a pretty entertaining comedy. If you enjoy movies like: Anchor Man, Step Brothers, etc then this would be a good rental. Ving Rhames and the asian comedian that was in The Hangover (tied up in the trunk) have roles in this.
Side note: Watched TDK for the first time in a while. I forgot how awesome this movie is. I cranked up the volume on my surround sound system to just halfway...my Sony towers knocked down a picture I had hanging on the wall. That was pretty sweet.
TDK, Batman Begins and Iron Man are joys to watch and hear in HD.Last edited by GAMEC0CK2002; 05-02-2010, 09:04 AM.Comment

The House of the Devil
I would say, overall, I really enjoyed the movie. Its style is late 70s/early 80s styled horror and I thought West did a wonderful job recreating that style in a way that it seemed very authentic and like the film was actually filmed 25 years ago. I thought the acting was great and the suspense was always present; however, the movie felt kind of rushed in the last 10 minutes which is odd because the movie took so long to actually get going. Still, I think its a great movie and one of the few true bright spots in recent horror.

Surviving the Game-(1994) Pretty entertaining movie where Ice-T kicks some ***. Ice-T gets tricked into thinking he is going to be a hunting guide (yeah like someone is going to approach a homeless man and ask him to be a hunting guide lol.) when really he is the hunted for a few rich guys who hunt humans as a way to escape the real world I guess and let out anger. It also has Gary Busey in it lol but he dies fairly quickly.
The Shawshank Redemption-(1994) Great movie, can't believe I've never watched it but I was only 6 when it came out. Terrific movie that captures every emotion. Loved Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman is also great. I'm glad I watched this on Netflix Instant.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: 8.7
Very interesting movie, it was very imaginative. Heath was truly talented. Watching the movie, he reminded me a whole lot of Johnny Depp; yes Depp played a part in the movie as well, but his acting and style was just so reminiscent of Depp. The movie itself was very stylish and and at some points sort of confusing. However it was throughly entertaining.Comment

Casino Royale: Not the first time I've seen it. Not even just the 10th time I've seen it. But damned if that movie isn't endlessly entertaining every time. One of my absolute favorites. Seriously, if I got 5 movies for the rest of my life Casino Royale would probably be one of them.
And now I'm watching the still pretty good but pretty disappointing Quantum of Solace.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
I went and saw Hot Tub Time Machine last night. I thought it was pretty funny and to be honest it was better than I expected. But I just don't see this one having the staying power as some of the better comedies to be released in the past 5-10 years. I feel like once I watch it a few more times I won't have much desire to see it anymore.
And a side note not having anything to do with the movie itself. We went to a tavern-style theater. There's less seats in the theater and there's some tables and stuff, and during the movie you can order food, beer, drinks or whatever. Except for some reason nobody ever offered to serve us. This wouldn't have been a big deal except I was quite parched going into the movie. Also, the movie seat area was full so we were stuck near the front in what are basically office chairs from Staples, the kind with the high back, arm rests and wheels. Damn near fell back out of the chair a couple times from trying to recline/slouch in it too much.Lux y VeritasComment
