Really? You're going to base it on one guy's posting here? I try to enter comic hero movies with the attitude that it should capture the fun and intrigue of reading a comic book (when I did). They have to be pretty campy and unpolished to lose me.

Traitor-Great, great movie. You can catch it on Netflix instant and I reccommend you do. It star's Don Cheadle who I've always been a fan of. This has been in my queue for awhile and just got around to it tonight and I loved it. The ending was also so badass.
Wyatt Earp-Again caught this on Netflix instant queue. I liked it, it was a big long but I love westerns and this didn't disappoint. Not as good as Tombstone though, but I loved Dennis Quaid in the movie. He played Doc Holliday extremely well and made the movie so much better.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Am I the only one who watches movies anymore? LOL
I watched Seven Pounds earlier today and just couldn't get into it. I lost interest quickly and the film just dragged for me. I'm a huge Will Smith fan so thats why I gave this a chance, but I just found this movie to be extremely boring.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
I didn't mind it. It was nothing amazing and I can def see why people say it dragged on because it was very slow going but i watched it straight through. I wouldn't buy it or even watch it again though but it was a nice change of pace to the usual action/comedy flicks i have been watching recently.

I do, but only movies that I already own. I can only really watch new movies when I go back home because I have On Demand there (though I did just rent Surrogates, which I think I posted about). Some recent trips
Kick *** - I loved it. Hit Girl was seriously the most adorable and yet most bad-*** character I've seen on film lately. Besides her, the whole movie was well-made from top to bottom....loved the ode to Jack Nicholson's Joker at the end by Red Mist. Extra kudos to Nick Cage for his performance.
Funny, action-packed and deserved to do so much better at the Box Office.
A Nightmare On Elm Street- You know, despite the critical reviews...I liked it alot. Jackie Earle Haley nailed the role of Freddy...he gave Freddy more raw primal emotion than Englund did, and I thought the kid actors were actually decent. I liked how Freddy didn't manipulate the dreams to an extreme extent...just enough to scare the pants off the kids. Freddy's back-story was fleshed out pretty well, but I wanted even more.
I hope to see sequels...and I'm sure there will be haha.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Chloe- Started off nice, there was some really nice Amanda Seyfried on Julianne Moore action that ended all too briefly and I was really thinking I was watching something really good. The ending though, really let me down, it's like the movie just kind of fell apart. It's almost like they spent too much time setting up and when came time for a climax there wasn't any time left so they just kind of threw something together to end the movie. There wasn't any back story on the title character either imo. Still, I suppose it was worth it to see the Seyfried-Moore lezbo scene.
Defendor - Woody Harrelson flick about a mentally challenged guy who thinks he's a super hero. Mildly entertaining, took me a couple of attempts to get through it all the way, but by the time I get to watching movies these days it's usually when I am winding down and getting sleepy. I don't know if I'd recommend it, but if the premise sounds interesting to you, go for it. Kat Dennings is cast as kind of like his prostitute sidekick of sorts.
It's Complicated - Kind of enjoyed it. I'm not part of the target audience for it but I like watching Meryl Streep act.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - Really good movie. Casey Afleck did a great job at being completely unlikeable, Pitt is the man as always, same with Sam Rockwell.PS: You guys are great.

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Iron Man 2
I think this is the way of calling something a "pretty looking mess." Believe it or not, this actually isn't one of those assured instances where if you like the first movie, you will like the sequel. Sure, the Stark/Potts dialogue exchanges are all too familiar, and they throw in the little quips that makes Robert Downey Jr.'s character who we love, but some things were kind of taken on the route that you would probably lastly expect them to go. Let me put it this way: we see the trailer and we have preconceived notions on how the movie will play out, and we will fill in the rest in our minds accordingly. When we see that it doesn't seem to really happen that way in the movie, that distortion messes with us and leaves us unimpressed.
I'm not sure if I'll be the first person to say this or if anyone would agree with me, but this movie played out in typical sequel fashion (got the cheap laughs, overzealous action, pertained to villain focus as well as protagonist struggles, and threw in more known actors) meanwhile combining elements of the first movie and Spider-Man 3. Yes, I just said Spider-Man 3. The difference is that Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow have already created lovable characters from the beginning, and Iron Man is just in a different world. But this was this franchise's Spider-Man 3 in my honest opinion.
There are plenty of head-scratcher scenes and all of the action is backloaded. The villains attempt to express some sort of ulterior motive but it gets lost in the scramble of trying to make sure that everyone gets their screen time. Actually come to think of it, Downey Jr. and Rourke have very little interaction with one another. This is something that I feel is important in a superhero movie, because getting inside the head of your enemy and knowing them in and out is a lot of what it's all about. Let's not forget that they have to fight one another too, and I guarantee you that there is just as much fighting between Iron Man and Whiplash as there is between Spider-Man and Venom in SM3. In fact, aerial action doesn't take place until the end of the movie. Most of the time in the suit is, believe it or not, not actually used during action sequences.
If you think you're going to get a lot of action in this movie, you'd be wrong until the last half hour, which is pretty much nothing but a ride worth checking out on Blu-ray. I haven't heard and felt LFE's in a theater like I have for this movie, which makes me believe this Blu-ray's audio is just going to be off the chain. Expect to be impressed in that department for sure.
I haven't even mentioned Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson! Well, SLJ doesn't have a whole lot to contribute if we're just going to be honest here, but Scarlett has a plenty big supporting role, and she is smoking in every scene that she's in, especially during combat (well, at any time I suppose). She is worth the price of admission, and I am not even kidding here. Every time that she's on screen, you almost forget to listen to what they're talking about because she is just so drop-dead gorgeous (and don't worry, we get some nice cleavage as well).
I feel that Sam Rockwell and his character, Justin Hammer, is a bit of a wash for me. I see what they were going for and I appreciate the determination, but I think that he is a better PG-rated villain than he is for something like this. Yes, he does kind of fit in the witty Iron Man atmosphere... but I don't really think that he and Ivan Vanko would really be coercing with each other in any sort of real life situation (should this happen, lol). Again, Hammer and Downey Jr. share very little interaction with one another. It's very hard to appreciate their rivalry that grows during the course of the movie when they aren't ever in the same room with one another.
The one thing that I know I would change is the directing. Jon Favreau is kind of shoddy with his work if you want my personal opinion, but a lot of it has to do with post-production work really. Even those side-scrolling transitions are in again, and are just an absolute eyesore to watch. I don't know who I would have to replace him, but I suppose as long as he plays Stark's bodyguard (who has a lot more screen time this time around) and this franchise is successful, he'll be sticking around... so enough on that.
Go see it, it's Iron Man! Just like how you would see SM3 because it's Spider-Man! I'm sure many people here will like it, or hell they may love it... even more than IM1. But expect it to play out like sequels play out. It's just interesting how far off base it will probably be than you would have perceived it to be before seeing the movie itself, as I said it has a few of those SM3 elements that I don't think a lot of people liked then. We'll see if they like them now, assuming they see them.

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
I realize that review was supposed to be negative, but Scarlett Johansson spending the entire movie being hot combined with the general awesomeness of Robert Downey Jr. means I'm still pretty excited.
Good review though. The SM3 references do worry me. That movie sucked. Especially when put up against the awesomeness of it's predecessor, which is what I think might happen here, because IM1 was a damn good movie.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

At least this movie still had a lot of heart, and that's what SM3 was sorely missing. Heart indeed goes a long way.
But I don't know if Iron Man really has any good villains to work with. As I said, the fight scenes with villains are honestly few and far between, and even when they're going on there's not too much creativity with them because there's not much you can do with two people in armored suits. I thought they'd figure something out this time around, but it didn't really happen.
But a good movie nonetheless. I suppose I would end up giving it a fresh tomato, but if everyone was in that same circle, then it would have an undeserving 90%+ rating on RT, and that's just not where it should be at. That said, the 70% it is standing at now is very fitting.
I assume you and many others will like it, but just understand that it certainly takes on that "sequel" role that many sequels tend to do.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
