Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

    Blonde Ice (1948)

This is really a pretty good and interesting B-movie crime programmer that has a pretty good plot and moves along at a good pace. Here's the plot and some of my thoughts:

Actually this is the synopsis. It reveals a bit but seeing as no one will likely see this it's ok:

Reporting the news for a top periodical Claire Cummings (Leslie Brooks) believes she made for better things other than hammering out a living with her sports reporter boy friend Les Burns (Robert Paige) and decides to marry up into wealth. On her honeymoon her new husband abandons her and goes back to Los Angeles when he catches her writing a love letter to Les. Later that night Claire charters a plane piloted by Blackie Talon (Russ Vincent) to travel back to Los Angeles and the next day her husband is found dead, presumably from a suicide. The police suspect murder and Claire deflects their suspicions by framing Les as having motive and opportunity to do in his rival. Claire continues to manipulate the emotions of Les to keep him helping her and when Blackie comes back into her life for blackmailing purposes, Claire dispatches him and cuddles up to successful politician Stanley Mason (James Whalen) for a ride to the top of the heap, but when he discovers her getting close to Les, Mason confronts Clair. When Les discovers the depths of Clair's ruthlessness he realizes it may cost him his own life.
As you can see with the synopsis this movie has some noir trappings and The Clair Cummings character is one of those bad girl Femme Fatales. In fact, as I watched the movie I kept thinking if Sharon Stone was in Hollywood back in the day and never became a top star this would be a flick tailor made for her.

The idea of Clair still carrying a torch for Les while trying to attain wealth with rich men is interesting. It shows the duplicitous nature of the character and how deep down she was a bit of a nutcase. A couple of things happen in this movie that are totally unrealistic (like Clair getting her job at the newspaper back despite an investigation on her husband's death) but they fit well into the story so the internal logic is there.

Last but not least I really liked the acting job done by James Griffith who plays the somewhat sleazy but effective newspaperman Al Herrick who is ostensibly trying to get Les off the hook on the police investigation. The two don't really like each other as Al thinks Les committed the murder. As the movie goes on though he sees things the other way (much too quickly for my liking though) but all in all the character was quite fun to watch.

Can't give this more than 2 stars but it's a good way to pass 70 minutes or so.

I watched Unthinkable last night and I agree it was intense however, I wasn't very impressed. The whole thing was just a little "off" to me. Especially, with Carrie Anne Moss's character.

Last night I watched The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus on Net Flix. I thought the movie was visually stunning and pretty interesting although, somewhat confusing at times. To me it was almost like Alice in Wonderland meets Inception. Also, this movie made me realize how much I actually miss Heath Ledger as an actor. As he was fantastic in this movie. Plus, big props to Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farell for completing Ledger's role. I thought the director pulled off that transition perfectly.

I'm definitely going to have to give this another watch sometime to see if I can make more sense of it.

its basically a new age Dazed and Confused. The guys in this movie are horrible. But the eye candy in this movie is top notch.

So many young actresses in this movie.

I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

                The Book of Eli

I was able to proceed with it today. Although the start was slow, the rest sure had somewhat of a kick. Action scenes were filmed differently (in a good way for the most part) and I saw Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman play out of character for once. Regardless, I wasn't too keen on the style of the movie. A lot of it was just weird to me, and I can see why people might not like it that much for that reason.

The ending was a nice bit of surprise though, and time after time during the movie I actually was questioning certain things but I finally got my answer. Almost makes you want to watch it again for that very reason. If only I had that want though.

A weird combination of being good but okay at the same time, with me personally finding mediocrity in the actual story and style of filming itself.

Felon - You're typical jail movie. It looked like the budget was next to nothing in this movie but, I still enjoyed it.

Easy A- It was decent and had a few funny parts. It is worth a rental to watch with the girlfriend or wife.

Also Amanda Bynes is in it and I'm not sure what happened. She use to be really hot but not in this movie.

Not a movie, but I've been watching Star Trek TOS Season 3. Enjoying the stroll down memory lane. It's amazing how well Shatner, Nimoy and DeForest carried the show.

Just watched the last exorcism. I thought it was good until the ending. I thought the ending was rushed and didn't really explain anything.

Devil-Really good movie and was scary. Next time I get in an elevator I might be more nervous then usual. Not sure how I feel about the ending but I still enjoyed and definitely had that fear factor.

Had to see Season of the Witch last night. Those terrible Nic Cage movies are good for some laughs. It was pretty bad but not as awful as I expected.

Dragon Ball Evolution. Typical teen action flick with the older, wiser mentor. Pretty good action scenes but pretty much what I expected.

                              Prison Break: The Final Break.
Never really followed the show. Felt more like a long tv episode than it did movie. Felt rushed in a sense that nothing was really explained----guess it made sense if you followed the show.

Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li.
Good action scenes with obviously a far fetched storyline. Solid job done by the girl playing Chun Li. I would watch it again for the fight scenes.

Dinner for Shmucks-I've heard pretty bad reviews from almost everyone but I thought it was funny. Not hilarious but it did have it's moments. I thought Paul Rudd and Carrell were good together. And I loved Galifinakis character. I enjoyed it overall and it gave me a few laughs. My biggest compliant is I felt it dragged on too long.
