I liked Murphy in this, but his character was kind of shallow when all was said and done, despite the amount of screentime (or lack thereof, depending on how you see it).

For those who really don't know what it's about but have shown interest in seeing it, I'd recommend you jump right into it as opposed to dissecting the trailers and such.
I watched this movie recently, and actually really liked it. Timberlake fit in really well with his character. I personally thought Murphy's character was awesome, especially the way he went out. and I love how the ending with Timberlake and the girl mirrored the beginning with his mother (Olivia Wilde is hot).

Saw Jack Reacher last night, and I must say it was pretty good. I walked in there with my buddies and some pretty low expectations, the commercials made the movie look very bland and un-interesting.

I have to say it was good. I was not expecting the opening scene and it hit kind of hard, the movie had a good amount of laughs and thrills though, Tom Cruise at his best.

I saw it today and thought it was very good. Cruise did a great job with the role. The opening scene gave me some anxiety but once I got passed that I was fine. The one liners by Cruise are pretty funny throughout.

Les Miserables ... already a fanboy of the Broadway musical having seen it numerous times. It was excellent, though not the same as the Broadway version. While the depth of not being contained to a stage was amazing, there's just something about seeing it live. Also, i thought DDL was a lock for Best Actor after watching Lincoln. Now I'm not so sure Hugh Jackman doesn't deserve it.

American History X - First time seeing the entire movie. Damn good movie and great acting by Edward Norton. The ending was shocking to me. I liked how the director had all the scenes in the past in b&w and present scenes in color. I never caught that before.

Resident Evil: Retribution - Trash. Just trash. bad writing + horrible acting. Even the action is boring. RE needs a reboot ..a complete re-imagining...grittier tone... less action...more suspense and true horror...based more on Raccoon City at the onset of the outbreak. Get away from the video game characters.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Outstanding. Sad but rewarding and even funny towards the end. Loved it

I was outvoted by my friends and was forced to watch Pitch Perfect. I was like oh man I have to watch Glee? **** no.

I'm glad I caved and watched it because it was funny as hell. Fat Amy cracked me up the whole time and the commentators during the performances were 'Best of Show' like which is a movie I love and John Michael Higgins was one of the commentators.

I'm a fan of Anna Kendrick. I've liked her a lot in all the movies I've seen her in and I think she's really cute and her hot meter went up knowing she can sing.

                        The Savage Horde (1950)

                        Plot

John "Ringo" Baker shoots an Army Captain in New Mexico in self defense and his brother, Lieutenant Mike Baker is charged with bringing him in. Ringo is on his way to Utah to see Livvy Weston and has an encounter with the U.S. Cavalry patrol led by his brother, and wounds Mike in making his escape. He arrives in the town of Gunlock and befriends Glenn Larrabee, owner of a small ranch whose property, and that of the other ranchers, is coveted by Wade Proctor. Ringo becomes Glenn's partner and organizes the small ranchers to fight against Proctor, who sends a fast-draw, hired gunman, Dancer, gunning for Ringo, who also has his brother and the Army closing in on him.
This pretty much sums up the story but there's a lot more to it. This was a pretty complex western in that there were a lot of plot elements to it but it all meshed well. It doesn't hurt that there were some very fine western actors in this with William "Red Ryder" Elliott in the lead and a young Noah Beery Jr. as Larrabee.

The villain Proctor even has a little more depth compared to other B Western baddies in that he's in love with one of the women in town who just so happened to be Ringo's old girlfriend.

There's quite a bit of nuance to it despite the overall structure being pretty predictable but I thought it was a top drawer western from Republic Pictures.

                        3 out of 5 stars.

                            Denver and Rio Grande (1952)

Apparently I couldn't settle with one western last night as I ended up watching a 2nd one before finally going to bed. This was one of those B+ productions meaning B cast with A production values. Interestingly it's not as good as the previous movie which was definitely more in the B category.

                            Plot

Edmund O'Brien and his team of railroading men try to build a rail line through a mountain pass, while a group of less scrupulous construction workers sabotage the entire operation in the hopes that they can get their tracks laid first and get the money from the railroad
Edmund O'Brien plays a tough, common man type railroad builder named Jim Vesser along with his friend who happens to be a railroad planner named Gil played by J. Carroll Naish. The movie starts with Vesser noticing that railroad builders for the competing San Juan and Canyon City are planning to build tracks where they are and he gets into a confrontation with the two people heading that up. Vesser gets into a tussle while the other guy gets hurt and shoots at Vesser but ends up killing his man. The shooter would be the major villain in the piece played by a barely recognizable Sterling Hayden. Vesser gets cleared in the courts on the shooting but leaves the D&RG railroad building but a while later strange things are going on and the building is being beset by "accidents" and workers demanding their pay. Enter into the fray, the man behind the railroad project in the form of Colonel William J. Palmer (a real person by the way) played by Dean Jagger along with his beautiful secretary Linda. Jim comes back to find out what's going on (he suspects McCabe (Hayden) is behind all this)

That's the set up for the movie and there's a plot twist though it's given away WAY too early in the movie. The real stars of the film are the stunning views of the colorado mountains, the 19th century railroad trains and the action sequences including a pretty good one where two trains collide head on. The last third of the film has some good action in terms of both sides using military tactics to take over the railroad line and whatnot. The acting isn't the greatest as O'Brien didn't seem completely at ease in this flick and Sterling Hayden was absolutely wooden as the villain. Dean Jagger is probably the best from an acting performance standpoint but he doesn't really have much to do other than look authoritative.

That being said it was a pretty good flick despite its flaws and I enjoyed it enough. I'd say it's about a 2 1/2 star out of 5 type of flick. At the very least it's one of the better "railroad westerns" that were made.

Like Die Hard or The Warriors crossed with the action scenes of The Matrix. The visuals and sound are fantastic. Thankfully that hideousness in Cosmopolis last week didn't actually put me off girls because that's one fine lady in this. Sad it didn't do better but should have no problem obtaining "cult classic" status. Also the folks that made this would do real good with a live action Mass Effect movie.

Carpenter's was the remake, right? I kept wondering if it was the original or remake because I thought the original was made in the 50s or 60s but then I thought there was a bad remake a few years ago.

Maybe it's both? Gotta imdb this.

Carpenter's version is the only one I have seen.
