Saw Spy and The Gift this weekend. I enjoyed them both. Spy was a good action flick. I'm usually not a huge Melissa McCarthy fan, but I thought she was pretty good in this one. Not too over the top and some good use of cursing.

The Gift was awesome. Not what I expected going in, but it was a good surprise. Jason Bateman was fantastic and I loved the ending.

Saw peanuts with my mom last night. Like I have seen another people say it doesn't do a lot of new things but with that said it was entertaining and funny movie and the characters felt like how they should fell and snoopy was great. I figured I would like it and I was not disappointed at all.

I agree with what others have said.
        The gift was great.

Not what I expected with the ending and characters.

The Man from UNCLE. Not the greatest offering by Guy Ritchie. Had its' moments. A bit too disjunct it seemed. Set up for a sequel for sure. I thought the lead female (I think she was the lead role in Ex Machina) was a bit weak. Worth a look. I don't recall the part of the Russian spy having the attributes portrayed here, but then again we know the libertie4s Ritchie takes with characters.

            Furious 7

I was pretty impressed with this, actually. Obviously seeing Walker was tough all movie long, but the movie was enough of a thrill ride that you were focused on how the heck they were going to pull off the new mission.

Insane action. Suspend belief because pretty much everything they did in this movie could never happen. But once you drop the "that's not realistic!" you get to appreciate it for what it is.

When The Rock rockbottomed Statham I damn near crapped myself. Right out of 1999, and I loved it!

Check it out for sure, even if you haven't seen the others. I'm no car enthusiast or have even followed this series closely, but I think I've seen all but maybe one of the series. Didn't feel like I missed anything.

The characters being the same for years now, you feel a connection. They talk about not being friends, but rather family and the bleeds through the screen. You get worried about Dom doing the crazy stuff, Brian his wingman, and Ludacris and Tyrese keep things light if a bit cheesey.

                Side Effects

Very cleverly written, beautifully shot, and tremendously acted. It provided a great shift in narrative from one act to the next, and the ultimate payoff is plenty strong. It felt a bit reminiscent of a few other films I have seen in the past ten years, but if I mention their names I fear I will spoil some of the goodness this film has.

Sadly, I can't help but have felt emotionally underwhelmed while watching this. I don't think I would have sacrificed very many of this film aspects to become a bit more emotionally compromised, but this is the third film I have now seen that Scott Z. Burns has written (The Informant! and Contagion before it), and none of them have yet to provide me with moments off the page that can provide you with peaks and valleys, levity, or side conversation.

These are not necessarily film components at all, and for long-term appeal it's probably best that it's left out. I can see how this movie might not impress many a first time through, however. I think it has a long of lingering effects that will require a second viewing to be fully appreciated. For that reason, I'm selfishly glad how it was written because I'll be more compelled to go back to it. However, if you had just left the theater and were hoping for a bit more flair, you'll probably be sorely disappointed.

I do wish I could have felt slightly more impacted with the ending result, so I'm sure something could have come about... but as of now nothing comes to mind, and I normally leave it up to the professionals to provide that for me. That being said, I'm sure this was done as best as it could while telling the story they wanted to, and that's good enough for me.

EDIT: And for once, this actually has a trailer (I just checked, it was Trailer #3) that I wouldn't be against people seeing before seeing the film. Too often I think that films provide way too many spoilers or plot points. I think this found about the right balance for hooking you and not revealing too much. Though of course, I would still prefer going into movies blind anyway.

Turbo Kid. Great homage to 80's movies. Was actually not expecting to be entertained but I was pleasantly mistaken.

                      The Departed (2006)

I thought it was an excellent movie with a lot of plot twists, good dialogue, and some serious "what the ****" moments. I watched it with a friend as we went back through the movie analyzing specific scenes after it was over.

It was this movie that made me finally realize Martin Sheen is the Illusive Man in the Mass Effect series. I need to rewatch this movie one day.

                          Just watched SouthPaw.

I've had it on my laptop for a long time, but I rarely watch movies unless I'm on duty and today has been that day.

I thought it was good. I'm not a big boxing movie fan, but I was intrigued because I read that Kurt Sutter was involved with the screenplay. The end result was a little predictable, but overall I enjoyed it. Jake Gyllenhaal sold the character well.

I just think everybody was perfectly cast, down to Alec Baldwin.

A movie that truly deserved Best Picture and was freakin' awesome. I've never seen Internal Affairs, though.
