I've seen the first and third, but not in quite some time. If I were to watch #2 and also go 4-6, I would certainly re-watch those other two as well.

I saw 0 Rocky films and enjoyed Creed. Provided extra motivation to actually watch the Rocky films.

Finally got a chance to watch Jurassic World. What an incredibly fun movie. I had pretty low expectations for it going in but was pretty blown away. That final sequence was amazing!

          The Peanuts Movie (2015)

While it certainly wasn't a perfect movie it did have a heartwarming story and the essence of Charlie Brown is definitely there though updated and a little less heavy/dark the way Schulz tended to write his strips. The balance between Charlie and Snoopy's stories was a little off at times as it felt very Snoopy-centric at times but their stories were paralleled so the payoff was quite nice.

I've been feeling very depressed lately so watching this movie actually cheered me up quite a bit. Like Schulz, I see a lot of myself in Charlie Brown and the message of never giving up and being who you are really resonated to me. As I said previously, the movie glossed over some of the downbeat aspects of Charlie Brown but you get a good glimpse of it at certain points. The movie did a great job of calling back to various Charlie Brown images and moments from the past.

I'm not the greatest fan of CGI animation but I thought this was extremely well animated and captured the essence of every character quite well. The only real bad thing about the movie is that I felt the voices were quite off but that's understandable since there hasn't been any Charlie Brown specials or whatnot in YEARS and they had to recast everyone.

Excellent little flick and great for kids between 8-12 at the very least. As I said there's something for the grown ups with the call backs and the story itself is quite charming.

The Intern. Heart-warming. Quite the fantasy set-up but it works. I couple of clearly laugh out loud (sorry, I don't "lol") moments. Good date movie.

Definitely surprised about this film. I thought this was gonna be one of those I had to get through for the girlfriend movies, but I really enjoyed it and I thought DeNero did great.

                San Andreas

Picked it up from Red Box for free today, and got to demonstrate myself to the most pleasing audio/video experience in my system that I can remember. I grinned ear-to-ear far too much, mostly because of the wicked subwoofer workout. I only wish I had Dolby Atmos for this one!

As for the film itself, it was probably about what I expected, only I felt it was going to be even more ridiculous in a bad way. I'm glad it wasn't, but I'm not trying to say that it was realistic or anything like that. Let's pretend for a second that a 9.5 earthquake could actually happen in one of these places... okay, I'll buy the destruction. But there were maybe a few too many close calls that just wouldn't be happening, but I was okay with all of it. I've seen worse scenarios in films like Live Free or Die Hard that I would complain about before this. It's not like Dwayne Johnson acted as superhuman as he did in the recent FF movies even, but it was very close.

For that matter, the effects were very well done. I'm normally skeptical that these massive destruction movies could pass off as convincing from what the CGI delivers, but for the most part it hit a home run with regard to building destruction and blending in with environments. Every so often I was seeing some gaudy effects, but I felt the impact of the destruction more so than I didn't. There was one tsunami shot rolling over SF that was just way too impressive, probably my favorite shot of the film. The one issue with these kinds of films though is that it's only as good as the effects are... so Emmerich's 2012 was supposed to be something for its time (as was Avatar, for that matter). I was rather turned off by 2012's visuals, and I think if most people looked back they would just be cracking up. This did much better, but eventually something else will best it.

The story was never quite good, because it never tried to be different than any other disaster film. We follow a main character with a broken family, and he will attempt to play hero which could in turn possibly rekindle his relationship with all of them. It had at least one interesting upheaval that made it a little better than others, but ultimately it didn't do enough. I wonder if a disaster movie is "allowed" to be Oscar material, in which case I'd like to see what would happen if somebody came up with the perfect screenplay for it. At any rate, it did have one issue that most disaster movies have... blowing most of its load in the first half of the film, and the latter half dragging a bit more after everything else. It saved the tsunami for later, but most of what you're looking for from the trailers probably appears before the 60 minute mark. I guess an Oscar-worthy version would find a better balance, or much more character progression/buildup, heh.

If I ever get Atmos and a large 3D projector, I will be getting this film. Until then, I'll be alright.

The last movie that I saw was The Walk! Incredible movie and trilling even for people that are not afraid of heights. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays at his best in this movie. Highly recommended to watch!

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Checked out a couple movies this weekend: Mission Impossible Rogue Nation - I've become a bit of a MI fan, but this was my least favorite of the last 4 releases. Just didn't seem to have the signature crazy moments that past MI have had. Still a fun flick, just a little underwhelmed. I had high expectations.

Also watched San Andreas. Another somewhat letdown because I had heard this was a bit of a surprise hit over the summer. But when you think about it, an earthquake and tsunami isn't exactly the action packed event to draw it out to 2 hours of film. A movie about heli rescues like the one at the beginning of the movie would be better.

Ant-Man. The opposite of the last two - was totally drawn in the whole time. Loved the Avengers appearance. The shrinking/sizing up ability really made the fights cool. Surprisingly great superhero movie that's aimed to be more of a comedy balance. I think I liked this more then Avengers Ultron.
                    NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
                    NFL - Buffalo Bills
                    MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Copied this from the "grind gears thread"(basically)
I watched "The Seven Five" yesterday......it was my precinct when I was on P.D. a LOOOOONG time ago. Fascinating documentary that if it was made as a movie and you didn't know it was a true story, you would think it was an utterly ridiculous over the top plot.
(I must admit.....good times back then....like the Wild West......but I think suffice to say....I'm not a fan of the B.S. that went with it. I'll refrain from any more badmouthing....but I wouldn't piss on Michael Dowd and his crew if he was on fire)

All in all though, I thought it was a well made doc, with very interesting content.
Worth the watch for sure IMO.

What's everyone's top ten movies of 2015? I still have quite a few to see but here's what I got so far.

                        1. Creed
                        2. Mad Max: Fury Road
                        3. The Martian
                        4. Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation
                        5. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
                        6. Kingsman: The Secret Service
                        7. Inside Out
                        8. Staight Outta Compton
                        9. Ex-Machina
                        10. Sicario

Surprised that no comicbook movies cracked my top ten as I did enjoy them but didn't think they were great.

I've seen exactly two of those, haha. Haven't been able to afford movies much this year. Thought about it, and I've only seen 4 films in theaters this year (Mad Max, Avengers, Ant-Man, and Star Wars). The bloom is still fresh, but Star Wars is my favorite story, but I love the Mythology of that franchise, so I'm biased. Though I really, really enjoyed the other 3 as well.

I've watched a ton of good, smallet releases on Netflix this year, but honestly have no idea when most of them came out.

Luckily movies are so cheap here in the Philippines. 3 dollars most of the time and if it's specialty like imax or 4dx it's about 10 bucks.

And when I can't make it to a theater I'll just find it online down the road but I love the big screen so I'll watch as many movies as I can when in a big town.

Yea movie tickets in the States are around 15 or so. At least near me. So I just find them online and download them and watch them when I get a chance. Right now I got a ton to watch including Ant Man, Avengers, HTTM 2, Get Hard, Trainwreck, Entourage, Minions, F&F 7, Kingsman and all 6 Star Wars movies. That's what I have downloaded also need to see Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation, as well Star Wars 7, and Spectre.
