Re: What movies have you seen recently?

After FF2 they all run together for me. FF7 needed more of The Rock.

The Revenant - This was very good. Hardy and DiCaprio were both amazing, but the Captain almost ruined some scenes for me (I guess it didn't help that I didn't buy the actor as the leader of the First Order, either). Still a very intense and gripping movie. I was aware of the time complaints and was expecting a Django Unchained scenario, but I thought the pacing was well done. The cinematography is wonderful and beautiful and crafts a character out of the landscape. While not as striking as Birdman or Skyfall it manages to really pull you into the savage, untamed world of the frontier.

It wasn't anything special and I'm sure more verbose and critical analysis of the move will kill it.

The Revenant: Some of the visuals are amazing. The fact that they filmed this with natural light makes it a very beautiful movie to see. I actually liked Tom Hardy's work with his character better than DiCaprio's. It was also fairly bloody but I would say was better done than the above. I did feel like the movie ran longer than it needed, but I was okay with it because again the visuals were amazing. I know the joke is this movie is all about getting Leo his Oscar, but personally I don't think it will get it done. I'm not a movie critic by any means, but for me the best acting in this movie was done by Tom Hardy.
Man, how sad would it be if Hardy got the Oscar for this instead of Leo? From everything I'm hearing so far, that's looking like a realistic occurrence.

Are they both potential leading role candidates for the film? Or is Hardy considered to be in the supporting role?

Because if it's the latter, one getting it shouldn't affect the other.

          Hardy will probably be supporting.

No way the studio submits both as lead actors. I really want to see Revenant, as I think Leo and Tom are the best two actors out there right now. I can't think of a Tom Hardy movie I didn't like; even that joint a few years ago with Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon entertained me.

Even the Star Trek movie he was in? Bronson is probably my favorite role of his.

Hardy's next movie, Legend, looks awesome.

Never saw it. Not really a big Star Trek fan (except the last two). But the movies I've seen, I loved.

Nurses 3D. The wife and I somehow ended up watching this on one of the movie channels. Very strange movie. It was okay until the end where it veered off to left field.

Tom Hardy was in Star Trek: Nemesis. It was the final Star Trek Next Generation film.

I don't think I posted it earlier, but I did watch an indie called 'The Cake Eaters.'

Not sure what the title actually infers, but the film was good. I really liked that it was anti-cliche', especially the ending. There were strong performances from Bruce Dern and Kristen Stewart (yes, she was very good).

                      Nice little character study.

                        From the screenwriter via Wiki:
Bartok is quoted as saying, "The Cake Eaters is a term I grew up with in Pennsylvania. My mom used to use it to describe those who had it made, had their lives mapped out for them, were the most likely to succeed… 'The Cake Eaters.'
I've only ever heard it used in The Mighty Ducks movie. It's used in a derogatory manner towards Adam Banks, as he comes from a rival team made up of preppy, well-to-do kids to the Mighty Ducks, a group of misfits. In the end it's used in an endearing way, like a nickname.

                        Ducks fly together.

Ya'll haven't ever heard the saying, "You can't have your cake and eat it too." ?

Not sure if that saying (kind of a "best of both worlds" idea) translates well to that movie given what the screenwriter said, but I think I can get through that figure of speech without questioning it or taking it too literally.

Just saw the Hateful 8 Friday night. Easily the funniest Tarentino movie ever. And, in a lot of ways it reminded me of Reservoir Dogs.

The Revenant had probably the best camera work I've ever seen. The fight scene with the Native Americans in the beginning was fantastic.
