I wouldn't watch it again, and I don't think it's worthy of winning any Oscars, I may be in the minority here though.

I'm just curious why you compared it to a dumbed down Apollo 13 and more like Armageddon?

The book and the movie went into a lot of scientific detail unlike Armageddon which is completely inaccurate even though it still is a good movie.

Not really for the theme sense, or even the scientific detail. It's more so the interactions of the delivery within certain scenes that reminded me a lot of Armageddon, and the seriousness wasn't as honed in as Apollo 13. Without giving too much away, it just seemed to be very cliche all the way around. I did not know it was based off of book, btw. Will have to check it out.

I actually like Armageddon, heck I like any space drama blockbuster that has some comic relief in it. Even it wasn't really "space", I remember Deep Impact being one of those movies I enjoyed as well.

Regarding The Martian, I was just a bit let down as I thought it was going to be more emphasis on the psychology of being stuck on Mars.

Here is a different take on the movie, and one I side with more, I feel he says it a lot better than I ever will:

Its one of my favorite books ever and I liked the movie a lot but I agree with a lot of what youve said.

I felt the acting was very flat all around. I loved the mars visuals and the special effects, and the science was represented decently well in the movie, but I felt like I was watching a soap opera at times when people were talking to each other.

I still say its a good movie, don't get me wrong. Really great book too. They tried to capture Mark Watney's ablity to laugh in the face of absolute never-ending life threatening danger, but they really overlooked the hard toll mental warfare that must go on during a situation like that.

Armageddon is a very fun movie to watch but makes absolutely no gosh-darn sense whatsoever.

Saw Hail, Caesar! It was a pretty meh movie. The actors I was excited to see in the movie had incredibly limited roles. Clooney has a couple good scenes, Channing Tatum has like 2 or 3 lines all movie, Jonah Hill has one scene. Definitely would not watch again.

            The Revenent

Holy **** what a beautiful movie. Probably the best looking I've seen, every scene was breath taking especially in imax. Amazing performance by Leo and especially Hardy. Astonished how he transforms, the accent was so good.

Inaratu is a genius. Back to back director of the year imo.

I have to watch a making of for this movie, it looks like they went through hell making this.

I watched Kingsman the other night. The movie looked like trash in the previews, but I enjoyed the movie quite a bit.

I didn't like that movie so you weren't alone. It was way too over hyped in my opinion.

Funny you mentioned that. Being a Coen brothers movie, I really wanted to see it. However, watch The Ladykillers for the first time since it came out as it was on Netflix and was just as disappointed the second time around. Disappointing to hear that about their latest yarn.

Saw The Lives of Others for the 1st time. Deserves all the acclaim it got.

Completely agree about Kingsman (can't wait for a sequel).

Children of Men is one of my favorite movies ever. I remember seeing it in a little theater in Boulder, Colorado, when it first came out and just being blown away. Love it.

Loved Good Will Hunting. What an accomplishment for a young Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

Talked myself into seeing Pride and Prejudice and Zombies before the Super Bowl.

It wasn't awful, but for a movie entitled Pride and Prejudiced and Zombies, it took itself too seriously. There also wasn't a whole lot of zombie action. It was pretty mediocre, even with low expectations going into it.

The Big Short - Looking at it as just another movie I would say it ranges from pretty good to great consistently throughout. The cast is filled with amazing performances most notably from Carrell as Mark Baum AKA Steve Eisman. It does some interesting things to keep its material in layman's terms and I appreciated the 4th wall breaks (mmm, Margot Robbie). The film does a great job of keeping a heavy situation from becoming downright depressing with its doses of swarmy comedy and sarcasm.

The real strength of the film, however, is that all this **** actually happened. And its infuriating. There's a point in the film where two investors are literally dancing at their good luck, but as they are put into place about the direct correlation between their luck and the people they're betting against everything suddenly sinks in. It sinks to the pit of the stomach where it should stick with the viewer for days. Its one of the most light-hearted, eye-opening films I have ever seen. And I mean that as a compliment because the subject matter is so damn depressing and infuriating that my face was literally red as I walked out the cinema.

This should be required viewing for every person who participates in the global economy - which is just about everyone on this little rock.
