Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Ghost in the Shell. More proof that amazing visuals cannot save a mediocre story. Plus, I don't think Johansson can pull off a strong lead for a movie. She's fine as the Black Widow, but I still would've liked a BW with a slight Russian accent, unless she has to mask herself/voice.Comment

We had a supervisor in a small post office I used to work at in the 80's that we called Nurse Ratched (behind her back). She was one of the worst persons I have ever known.Comment

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - The only thing I like is including Bart Crouch Jr. at the beginning rather than springing him on us at the end like the book did. The rest of the movie feels choppy and sped up.
Ron is still a ****ing imbecile.
Ralph Fiennes is incredible in his limited screen-time, however.Comment

Ouija: Origin of Evil
Spooky! Never watched the first film, but the Internet claims that not only is this pretty much a standalone, but that this is far superior in every way and that Ouija can simply be ignored. It all seemed to work out, as this one takes place in the 1960s and obviously follows a different set of people. The plot developed strongly enough, but like most horror films the exposition had to be explained to us. It can simply never be shown.
This is focused on a family with a widowed mother and two daughters, one 15 years old and the other nine. Acting isn't the high point of many horror films, and this one has its issues at times as well, but the nine-year-old... holy hell, this kid has some range. She may have overacted some parts (or at the least gave us a performance where I'd say, "She's clearly acting"), but I think she'll rise as she continues to age. She is appearing in the newest Annabelle film as well, so I'll be on the lookout for her.
The standout performance in this film is the cinematography, though. The framing, color timing, and lighting were impeccable. Many horror films simply don't try hard enough for a distinguished look, but this one sold its setting quite well. No emphasis on blues whatsoever. The smokiness inside the restaurant, the way the sun hit the windows in the background, the dim setting around the table with the Ouija board, the tense slow-pans to an unfocused background that we are trying to decipher what something is until it appears, and most all of the demonic images were pretty haunting. They will most certainly resonate with me till my next horror fix.
... Okay, I was typing this as the credits were rolling, and an after credits scene showed up. A name that is mentioned in the scene matches that of a name on the Ouija (2014) IMDb page, so it looks like there is a little universal connection. Will it get me to see that film? Unlikely, unless it shows up on my television somehow. I'm certain this is the better of the two, and honestly it wasn't that bad, even by modern horror film standards.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched a couple of movies over the weekend that were in the DVR.
Passengers - So yeah it was a good date night movie with my wife. Very entertaining and a decent sci-fi love story. The ending was a let down. It could have been far more fleshed out and it felt really rushed. But a solid date night flick that had just enough science fiction to hold my interest while the love story can hold your best girls attention. Jennifer Lawrence is an absolute fox. I love her.
Don't Breathe - Very clever suspense/horror film. Dark, gritty and at times you will have to suspend dis-belief. But overall a fast moving, entertaining film. Now Playing on PS5:

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Yeah but those fact based constraints are going to be a lot tighter in dealing with the Manson murders. The expansiveness of WW2 allowed him to place a lot of fiction into that sandbox. With the film reportedly focusing on Sharon Tate, I'm curious how he does it. Hey, I'm a fan, so if anyone can pull it off he can.

No to Jennifer Lawrence as Sharon Tate. They have no resemblance whatsoever. Jennifer Lawrence is an amazing actress but she isn't as stunning to the eyes as Sharon was. We need someone on her level. Lol. Harley Quinn I can see because she's just as beautiful. Lol
