Finally got around to seeing the Hurt Locker and it was an awesome movie. Kinda wished i had seen it at the movies and not on dvd but still enjoyable nonetheless.

Finally saw Jennifers Body. Great transfer, so-so movie. Imagine Mean Girls as a "horror" flick. Meagan Fox is still eye candy w/ marginal acting skills.Comment

The Fountain
Not much to say here without violating TOS, so I'll just say that I enjoyed the 96 minutes of length (though it felt longer, in a good way). There are many questions worth seeking answers to, but in the end it was very enjoyable. I watched the DVD and not the Blu-ray, so I can't speak for any sort of close-to-reference video or audio on that end.
I love Hugh Jackman.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Zero Hour! (1957)
This is the movie that's basically the basis for Airplane! (1980). Zucker, Abrahams, Zucker bought the rights to ZH and it's amazing how much that movie is more or less intact in Airplane!. They more or less took the over the top acting and absurdities of the original movie and ramped it up for their spoof.
I gotta say that the casting for Airplane! was perfect after watching Zero Hour! Dana Andrews was older and more world weary then Hays was in '80 but there was that every man quality that was present in both interpretations of the role. The doctor role was also perfectly casted in the latter movie with Leslie Nielsen looking very much like Jeffrey Toone who originated the role. However the biggest similarity was in the role of Treleaven/Kramer. In ZH it was played by Sterling Hayden who was EXACTLY like Robert Stack in the latter movie. It was simply uncanny! Stack took the role and camped up the clipped acting style of Hayden and made it hilarious. Even in ZH where it's supposed to be all serious Hayden was quite humorous.
In the end it's great to see the inspiration for Airplane! and the latter movie renders Zero Hour! almost into a parody itself. As a dramatic disaster movie Zero Hour! doesn't quite work. It's clearly in the cult movie camp. I wouldn't say it's MST3K level campy but it trended toward that area.
2 stars for historical reasons and for seeing Sterling Hayden ham it up a bit.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I saw Brooklyn's Finest a couple days ago and it definitely wasn't Antoine Fuqua's best movie but at least it was unintentionally hilarious.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief: B-/B
The franchise has a lot of promise. The acting was alright and the cast was pretty good. The story itself was so so though. Its trying to overtake the Harry Potter franchise since its going out very soon but the production value was no where near the Potter series.
For the first movie in the franchise, they should of built up the characters more, it seems as if they threw everything at us at a pretty fast pace. Reminded me of the Narnia series than the Potter series though. Hopefully the sequels get a green light and more money.
Where the Wild Things Are: D
When i start i movie i usually tend to finish it, however with this movie i stopped about 50 mins in because it wasn't going anywhere. I don't understand how someone can make a movie about a ten page book with 5 words on each page into a motion movie; i thought The Cat in the Hat was a great example of how much of a failure that is.
The movie was depressing and about nothing, but i guess some people like movies like that. When the kid first met the "Wild Things" in the woods, it sort of seemed like a pot head scene.Comment

I saw The Box starring Cameron Diaz, great movie although it had some logic gaps in it IMO. And it got a little far out there for even a fictional movie I thought. But the ethical questions it brought up were quite intriguing so I'll give it a solid B for that reason.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D last night. Hmm, don't really know what to think about it, it didn't blow me away like I expected, so maybe I was just expecting too much. The animation was awesome, but I think the script could have been stronger. Granted, I haven't seen the original or anything so I don't really know the story. Either way, I wasn't really blown away, it was decent and it's worth seeing but I was a bit disappointed.Comment
