True, but you knew that going in with a movie called Machete. For what it was trying to do---it did it WELL.

RED. Solid, solid action movie. What's not to like about old assassins kicking tail and taking names. Bruce Willis does a good job of anchoring the story with a strong supporting cast. Mary Louise-Parker is super cute.

    The airport scene was hilarious.

I think it merited watching all the way through. Not going to be in my re-watch pile, but it had its' moments. But I could see where other scenes could have been either cut or re-written, but were just left hanging in the final edit.

Saw 500 days of summer. I would describe this movie as "meh". Nothing too great, nothing too bad, just meh.

I really like the two main actors Joseph Gordon Levit and Zooey Deschanel and it was an ok little story but nothing that would make me want to watch it more than once. 6/10 from me.

The Ruins. Decent horror movie that is a poor man's version of the Descent. Has some disturbing scenes in it. Very good blu ray transfer--solid video and audio. Worth a rental if you like "vacation goes wrong" horror movies.

                Cop Out

Movie that probably shouldn't have been made, because they wasted some good one-liners that other movies could have used and they blew it on a pretty crap story. Tracy Morgan wasn't entirely stupid or annoying, and Willis looked pretty bored and stiff most of the time. Someone in here told me Seann William Scott was the only redeeming part of the movie, but I found him as annoying in this as I found him in the trailers.

I can still see this movie as being a guilty pleasure for some, so I'll let it slide as not being complete crap. There were some beautiful female actresses and Kevin Smith didn't really do wrong behind the director's chair. Not really worth a look though IMO.

                The Other Guys

From the posts here on OS, I expected something funnier. Not that it wasn't funny, I thought it was hilarious. But there were times where they would be Meet the Parents funny and other times they would be Dumb and Dumber funny, and there were times before hitting the final act where they became few and far between. The story wasn't ever really "uphill" at any moment, but the movie went downhill as it went on IMO. This one was a $15 blind-buy for me, and as far as replay value goes we'll see how many of my friends will want to watch it. If I can sell off the DVD and digital copy, I'll call the purchase justified. Until then, it was funny but not to the point of the comedy being of enough value for the movie's sake.

                The Social Network

I have a lot to say about why this movie deserves to win Best Picture, but I'll try and do my best to sum it all up in one word: timing. The timing of this movie's release was impeccable, and for this generation this movie absolutely has enough lasting power to stand above the rest and be a commentary for how the Internet is an evolving social mechanism in this world.

However for someone like me, take out the name "Facebook" and I don't even think I'll care to see this film. Even put in Tom Anderson and MySpace, and try getting me sucked into it despite rave reviews. I think the screenplay was mostly hit but had some sheerly lame misses unfortunately, and the directing was so subtle that although I very much enjoyed it (the cinematography was what sold it), I have to ask why this would earn a Best Director Oscar. What does David Fincher's directing do differently from... say... the directing in When In Rome? I won't call execution "flawless" but with little ambition, there wasn't much to mess up anyway. So again, I won't call him out for lack of ambition, it wasn't called for in the first place. But then again, maybe that film then isn't deserving of a Best Director nom. Sorry, I just don't get it.

I don't know how much information was fabricated, so I won't even try to dig into it and nitpick it to death. It was an enjoyable movie and a worthy blind-buy. Unfortunately, I think this movie has to be watched here and now. Twenty years from now, this movie will be completely forgettable. This is not the Citizen Kane of its time, however this is everything it is because of its time. I'd say this just misses my top five movies for the year when I take a long-run approach, but I appreciated its release despite the real Mark Zuckerberg's dissatisfaction of the project.

Megamind-Pure awesomeness. It was refreshing getting a fresh story with a super villain and his archenemies. The CGI was also really really good.

The Dark Knight - Finally watched it with surround sound, holy cow. The whole soundtrack is nothing but bass haha. Anyway, I think the Rachel character gets more annoying every time I watch it. I really hope Nolan can write a worthwhile female lead for the third movie because Rachel felt totally out of place, but I've noticed that a lot of Nolan's female characters feel like children. I think Maggie was an upgrade, but I felt like she was trying to channel her inner Katie Holmes instead of playing it the way she wanted. The only reason I even cared that she gets blown into millions of pieces is because of Christian Bale's performance and I think his role in this movie is really under appreciated. But I guess when you have Oldman, Eckhart, and of course Ledger turning wonderful performances then some people get left out.

I can't wait for the third one because after Inception, it seems Nolan can finally film a fluid fight scene.

Bale didn't do anything special and Heath Ledger just completely took the movie away from him. It could've been a completely different guy playing Bruce/Batman and it wouldn't have made a difference.

Ledger was by the far the movie stealer, that I'm not arguing. I think Bale's performance has more nuance than a lot of people gave him credit for in the movie, but he does get overshadowed.

Probably so, but I do find it funny that people say Bale couldn't show a lick of emotion in the Batman movies and yet he outshines the world in The Fighter. It's not that he acted worse in Batman, that is how Nolan wants Bruce to be portrayed. Think the Batman voice is awful? Don't blame Bale (not saying that you are). He did exactly as Nolan wanted.

I'm not trying to give him more credit for his acting job, but there's no reason anyone should be harking on it. There's honestly not much to Bruce Wayne.

There's more to Bruce Wayne than most people realize and there's a basis there in TDK, but Nolan did not explore it much at all.

Perhaps he will in the next sequel. I hope for it to be less villain-focused anyway. I know the casual moviegoer is going to complain saying that they didn't top The Joker, but IMO I don't even think Nolan is going to try. He can't, so why escalate for the sake of escalation? That's why most sequels fall flat on their asses.
