Just picked up Killer Elite on Blu-ray this afternoon. Thought it was pretty f'n good... Clive Owen rarely disappoints.

Pick it up, or rent it if you haven't seen it.

Recoil. Decent WWE action flick starring Stone Cold and the dude from Machete. Very predictable plot and okay acting.

Bounty Hunters. An unintentionally funny action movie. The script was horrible (somewhat believable plot) and the acting was terrible. But.....you can't go wrong with plenty of cat fighting between Trish Stratus in a school girl outfit and a kung fu Asian girl in a nurses outfit though.

The sitter. Really enjoyed this. Jonah Hill plays his typical "Superbad" underdog role. Not quite as good as Superbad, but plenty of laughs to be had.

If I were to take some films it rings similarly to, I would say The Bourne Identity/Supremacy, Salt, Taken, Paycheck... you get the drill. That said, the premise wasn't anything spectacularly original, but Liam Neeson takes a nice spin on everything and makes his narrative not only very personal, but very gripping and believable. On the minus side, there are times where you second-guess his choices of impatience or "wrong place, wrong time," but that's just how the movie was written.

I'd say that, while watching it, I was thinking the length was slightly inappropriate, and that a good 10-15 minutes could have been left out to progress the main ideas of the story along. However, when finally getting to the end, you realize why everything had to be put together the way that it was. You spend your time focusing on one main idea in the film, then it transitions to another, then another, then they put in some action for action's sake, and so on. The ideas in the film are clear-cut, but they are very scattered so that they can all come together for a sensible ending, which at first feels far fetched, but eventually felt a bit natural.

Good film, and while I know many people here have heard of it, I think more exposure might have been in order for this. I hope they at least profited from it.

I watched Hugo with the GF last night.....

I will give Scorsese props for a visually impressive movie but man did the story drag on and on. This was marketed as a family movie and I don't know how little kids could sit through that and not be completely bored out of their minds. I did like that it was an ode to a bygone movie era but it was done at such a turgid pace that I nearly nodded off a couple times.

So yeah, technically superior movie but the story and pacing could've used some work.

Varying degrees of "how clever and entertaining" and "W!T!F! am I watching?"
Seems like there's a lot of deleted scenes from the trailers but there's no deleted scenes option in the extras. Make sure to pause it at some point. I had no idea who the fat lesbian with Whoppi and Selena was either.

There's a trailer for Planes on there. You'd think they'd use something like Danger Zone but no. What song DID they use you ask? More Human than Human by White Zombie.

Basically, since the character of the main story has no personality whatsoever and coasts through life without major problems (She literally gets everything she wants. And she complains about it. Really? Really?) it's pretty much an audience surrogate story. Women are supposed to imagine themselves as Bella. It makes it easier to do so since said character doesn't really have a personality.

That's why women love it. There reasoning is "Who wouldn't want two hot guys to fight over me?" That and I've had women openly admit that they go to the movies just to stare at Jacob's abs.

Edit: Think of why dudes went to go see the Transformers movie. Why? Megan Fox, the explosions, and Robots. Also the nostalgia factor of seeing your favorite cartoon made into a movie.

It's pretty much Transformers for women. Why? Hot guys, Jacob's abs, and bad romance (even by genre standards)

The GF and I watched a couple movies last night:

Puss in Boots: Pretty good movie overall. I liked how they made PIB into a Zorro pastiche which means it wasn't ZOMG funny but it had its moments. It was more of an action adventure and I liked it for what it was. Really, this could've been an old live action Zorro movie with some tweaking of the script.

Contagion: I thought this was a pretty good movie as well though I kept thinking "this is just a more scientifically grounded, procedural version of Outbreak". There's no real character development as it just follows the lives of he people involved at the heart of the whole disease that's spreading around the world. In some ways this harkens back to the kind of procedural stuff Jack Webb LOVED to do except it was punched up a bit with at least some charm and engaging characters rather than being as dry as the Sahara desert. My only real complaint about the movie and maybe I shouldn't even complain about it because Hollywood will always do this but the one lone wolf rallying against the bureaucracy of the CDC/goverrnment/big pharma turns out to be a bit of a nutbar. Other than that this was a worthwhile movie though at times I think they stretch things a bit for the sake of drama.

great post and yeah I agree.

My wife kept telling me these little things that happened in the books but it still just all seemed so lame to me. I guess if I had to pick one word to describe it I would pick the word bland. It's not good, it not bad it just nothing. Boggles my mind that they have made billions of dollars off this.

Apollo 18. It was alright, defiantly didnt live up to expectations though so it was a disappointment.
