Hunger Games. Decent, but not blown away. Not a fan of the male counterpart from District 12 as an actor.

Felt a bit like The Running Man meets I Am Number Four.

I just finished watching this tonight as well.

It was pretty good. Nothing amazing but it held my interest. The movie definitely picks up once the actual Games start.

The biggest thing I took away from this movie though is that that Peeta dude just completely lowered the standards of what all the young girls who are addicted to this series will look for in a guy. Dude was such a simp and yet somehow pulls Jennifer Lawrence. Like what? It almost makes me wish I was like 6-7 years younger now.

This movie is about Manchester United and the Busby Babes in regards to Munich Disaster.

Must watch if you're a United Fan.

Moving film, especially for a United fan. It's why we say we never die.

I thought the guy who portrayed Matt Busby could've been better though.

That's what I kept thinking. In my head, I'm saying: horrible casting choice. Hey, the guy ain't hot, what can I say. Maybe that's what they went for (to show his "other qualities"), but simply it didn't work well for me.

Continuing on with the Matt Helm series of films

              Murderers' Row (1966)

              Plot Summary

The handsome top agent Matt dies a tragic death in his bath tub - the women mourn about the loss. However it's just faked for his latest top-secret mission: He shall find Dr. Solaris, inventor of the Helium laser beam, powerful enough to destroy a whole continent. It seems Dr. Solaris has been kidnapped by a criminal organization. The trace leads to the Cote D'Azur...
That summary pretty much nails it though conveniently leaves out the subplot of the inventor's daughter meeting Helm and then helping him. I gotta say this was a lot better than the first movie which isn't saying much to be honest. The humor is a bit better executed and having parts of the movie filmed in Monte Carlo and France works to give it a bigger feel.

Martin kind of phones this one in compared to the first film where he was basically the only reason to watch it but this time around the big bad guy is.....Karl Malden! Malden was obviously enjoying the experience as he chewed the scenery with gusto. His scenes were always a delight to watch and he does a good job at showing how an accomplished actor can go hog wild acting wise and still be credible.

The main lady in the movie was Ann-Margret who played the Dr. Solaris' daughter. I didn't much care for her as she seemed a bit flat though the scene where she's trying to get Martin to dance with her at the disco was a hoot.

As I said the humor was a bit better with the best bit being when Martin is first driving in Monte Carlo and looks at the package left by his boss. He sees a bottle of liquor and goes to drink that but lo and behold his boss put a tape recorder in the bottle which relays a message. Martin gets nonplussed over this and then takes out a flask and says "now you don't start talking back or i'll kill you" takes a swig and says "now you're talkin!". A scene like that would not be played for laughs today i'm sure.

The gadgets were a bit better this time around with a freeze gun and a time delay gun as well. Martin also uses a portable listening device to listen to conversations in another room.

One last thing, the henchman in this movie is an analogue to the henchman Jaws in the Bond movies instead of metal teeth his head is mostly covered by a silver plating which leads to a rather ignominous defeat.

this gets about 2 stars for me but starts to really drag towards the end.

UP NEXT: I will take a diversion and watch an old Randolph Scott western (Western Union) than we continue on with Matt Helm in 1967's The Ambushers.

The Seventh Seal - Finally. This took forever for B&N to ship to me for some reason, but I guess it was worth the wait. I certainly don't think I would have enjoyed or comprehended it when I was younger. It does well by playing on all the emotions as casts about terror, gloom, unbridled joy, and humor (the rape joke was hilarious). For as obvious as everything is (Death is after all an actual character), there's much much more working and its fascinating to watch the characters deal with it. Its a movie with a happy ending, but without the happiness. Its funny watching this and realizing just how many movies spoof or pay homage to this film in some way or another. When the sinners first popped up I had to stifle a chuckle in relation to Monty Python, but then of course the mountain of fear and terror that stumbles along with that group is quite intense. This is a movie that is timeless not because of its production, but simply because it just works so damn well. It has an obstruct art aura, but it works quite traditionally when its unfolded.

                    Oh well, I was.

Either way, the whole time, I just thought he seemed more like a bad guy. Didn't really think he fit in his role.

I dunno I think he fit his role pretty well. Actually they probably should have reversed the roles of the guy from Katnis' district and the guy that played Peeta. I think it would've worked a little better that way.

Considering this was filmed in 1954 the Criterion blu-ray looks phenomenal and it really could be mistaken for a film half its age. Anyway, the story is great and Mifune makes the fame-hungry Takezo compelling. While he is an adept swordsman, he is still an underdog in many ways as he stumbles from place to place not thinking about his course of direction or his actions. He has his shining moments which gives the audience enough hope to root for him on his journey to becoming a Samurai.

I have Seven Samurai waiting for a cold, rainy Sunday morning. I also have Three Outlaw Samurai that I haven't watched yet and of course the rest of the Samurai Trilogy.

I just realized that I don't have any samurai films that aren't in the Criterion Collection.

Quint, B&N had a "sale" on Criterion releases so I snatched up some oldies that have been on my list for a long time. Most of my order was films released in the 50s to which I just noticed last night. Also, all the movies I've watched the past couple of weeks have been subtitled, ha.

I have tons of classic foreign movies, along with some current ones as well. I have been slowly upgrading from DVD to Blu Ray. It's getting expensive!

                                Kill List

So I read about this as being an ever so shocking, brutal and terrifying horror movie that's entirely unforgettable but no one wanted to spoil any of it. Then I read the description as 2 hitmen coming back together to do one last job. Then I wondered how that equates to a horror movie. Quite a bit over hyped I must say. It's 90 minutes long. It takes 75 to resemble anything close to a horror movie. There's 3 guys on the list and the second kill is sure up there in the brutal department but otherwise it's only very tiny bits and pieces of forshadowing until the final 15 minutes. This last 15 minutes is also where it makes no sense any more, there's no explanations and it's much more wtf than scary. I guess I can give it credit for the actual ending but it kinda fell apart there.
