Moonrise Kingdom
Brilliant and gorgeous. Overall I'm not sure it's a cinematic masterpiece but it's certianly an artistic one. I'll have to watch it again because I picked up on something at the end and now I'm wondering about it throughout the movie which would change the whole thing. (For the better IMO.) Commentary might clear it up but I perfer to be left wondering and/or make my own conclusion in this case. Fantastic performances all around. Ed Norton and Bill Murray were absolute gold. Nice to see the kids were given some credit and not entirely dumb for the whole movie unlike some similar stories. At one point Bruce Willis' character even points out the kid is smarter than he is. I suspect that girl has many awards in her future.Comment

Your Highness
Watched this on Blu-ray last night. It wasn't terrible, but I also didn't really find myself laughing a whole lot either. I'm usually a fan of comedy movies like this, but for some reason, I didn't walk away impressed. Maybe I need to watch it again sometime.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
An American Werewolf in London - I feel like this is a pretty underrated movie even though the critics seem to hold it in high regards. I feel like this film has its own personality similar to films like Evil Dead/Army of Darkness, Shaun of the Dead, and The Shining where the film carves out its own universe. The movie carelessly walks from comedy to horror, from rom-com back to horror. I've always thought make-up and puppet FX age better than CGI and while the film is dated, the pure intensity of each sequence is pretty alarming and makes up for the old effects. Still, the transformation scene is always badass and watching his friend "deteriorate" over the course of the film is amazingly creepy.

The Out of Towners (1970)
Watched this movie with the GF last night. It's a comedy classic with Jack Lemmon and Sandy Denis as they leave suburbia and go to NYC where everything goes wrong for them. It's not LOL funny but more of a "What the heck can go wrong" kind of funny. The running joke of Lemmon trying to get people's names and addresses when things go awry is pretty amusing to watch.
Needless to say it's one of my favorite movies that he's done.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

(500) Days of Summer
Watched this on Blu-ray with the wife last night. I have never seen a movie bounce all over the place. I was having a hard time following the movie because of it. Definitely wasn't what I expected it to be, but it wasn't bad. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a damn good actor. He's come a long way from Angels in the Outfield. Haha. I have another of his movies, 50/50, on Blu-ray too. Will probably watch that real soon.Comment
