The scenes between Hushpuppy and Wink were the best and considering how great the movie was that really speaks to their chemistry and performances together.

I think Tom Hanks is a great actor...One of the best our generation...

I'm just not a big fan of Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt...

My top tier actors today are Leonardo DiCaprio, Denzel Washington, Mark Walbergh just to name a few...

Anyone find it odd DiCaprio never won an Oscar..? Is he the Dan Marino of Hollywood..? Who has made a bigger impact in their fields...Leonardo DiCaprio for Hollywood or Marino for the NFL..?

I love Brad Pitt. Dude has done a ton of fantastic movies. If he's in it, I feel like there's at least a 90% chance I'll enjoy it.

For DiCaprio, he lost to Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood and Jamie Foxx in Ray for his two best actor nods. He's done a lot of great roles, and may be the most consistently good actor out there (and imo clearly the best of his generation), but I don't see any one role that he should've won an Oscar for. Plus, he's 38.

I think he's saying he's still young and has time (assuming no sudden deaths) to win his Oscar.

Surprisingly enough, I actually think he will have a good chance to win one in this new Scorsese film about the broker(?).

That and younger dudes tend to not win Oscars. Of the last 27 Oscar winners, 25 have been 36 or older. The only two younger were Adrian Brody (29) and Nick Cage (31). Yep. Those guys. But even Tom Hanks was 37 when he finally won for Philadelphia. Denzel Washington was 35 when he won one for Best Supporting Actor, and didn't win his best lead actor award until he was 47.

He only should have won for Blood Diamond or Shutter Island. Anything else he's done has been very good, but probably outdone by somebody else that year.

I think Gangs of New York was his best performance. Such an incredible movie and he and DDL both could've won for their roles.

I haven't seen that one. When I was ready to give it a look, it still had a terrible looking Blu-ray (probably one of the worst ever made) so it turned me off. Since getting a new transfer, I have yet to give it a look.

Top 10 movie of all time for me, I think.

I thought Leo did a great job in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. He was more a supporting role but I thought he played the part of a mentally challenged person very well. It's always risky as it can come of feeling forced and fake but he made it seem natural.

Leo is a great actor. I know that's blasphemy to some people. I've yet run into anyone, outside of the Internet (yes I just grouped your sorry behinds) and my brother, that agrees with me.

But I also don't think he's ever been in a film that's really Academy Best Actor material.

I think The Aviator was his best shot. People eat good films about real people. I didn't know he was nominated for Blood Diamond, but that isn't a movie that wins you an Oscar.

It was just bad timing with Leos best roles coming the same year someone did something better. I'm sure some future performance of his will come up and he would get an award. Hell, The Wolf of Wall Street could even be it.

I used to not like Leo (it stemmed from me absolutely abhorring anything related to the Titanic movie - which I still have never seen) but in recent memory, he's been fantastic in any movie I've seen him in.

I do think he is "underrated" though, for lack of a better term, because it seems he's rarely ever talked about unless a new movie of his has just come out. I can't think of a movie I've seen of his where I didn't enjoy his performance quite a bit.

This sums him up quite nicely IMO. Leo's lack of people calling him a great actor may very well stem from the fact that his breakout success came from Titanic which rubbed a LOT of male moviegoers the wrong way. (I've seen portions of that movie and want to gouge my eyes out!) He's a steady actor that's underrated in a lot of ways. I kind of see him as his generation's James Caan or Robert Duvall. Give him another decade and people will start talking about him more outside of the internet.
