Was that the extent of your disappointment, though?

I thought the gang's acting was over the top, but otherwise there was a lot of nitty-gritty good.

      The Watch.

It was okay. Really felt like they had this idea for a film and the realized they still needed to fill the other 70 minutes.

There were many scenes that really provided absolutely nothing to the narrative. They might have been intended to but it really told us nothing we didn't already know or didn't actually need to know.

Just filler. Lots and lots of filler.

Yeah the gang was part of it; a little too over the top for me. The filming by the cop was also hard to buy. I have a hard time believing that would be allowed by any law enforcement agency and yeah he was warned a few times but was still able to do what he wanted.

The friendship between the 2 main characters was done well but Jake's romance and eventual wedding felt really rushed and forced.

Ah, I had a problem with what you meant, but it wasn't how "rushed" it was, it was that it took me a while to realize that the time frame for this film was at least several months, if not possibly even a year. They didn't really show that well in any sort of way, and I was caught off guard by the wedding scene.

Yeah, the time lapse threw me off. It went from talking to a girl, having a few dates and then boom ... wedding. It would've been good to have a few scenes in there where Jake's character discusses what he really wants to do with his future, and also maybe a scene where his new wife expresses concern for him taking on such a big case that he's really not qualified to handle.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

End of Watch was an interesting view with some good parts, but I don't care if I never see it again.

Agree with many of you guy's comments, including the overacting of the gang and the implausibility of some of the camera work, since it's supposed to be realistic, on the street cell phone/camcorder/cop cams doing all the work. No gangs would sit there and film all that crap of themselves, or a damn drive by LOL. Made it a distracting stretch at times.

DJ brought up a point that only became clear to me just now. This movie reminded me of watching 'CHiPs' back in the day; why are these motorbike troopers doing all this damn detective work on the streets, too? LOL Same with EOW, though they were just sort of stumbling on a lot of this stuff in a way.

                The Wolverine

Fantastic movie, may be the best X-men related movie they've done imo. It had everything I could ask for in a movie with a good story, solid action, occasional comedic line from Wolverine, and an interesting after credits scene.

2 Guns. Liked it a lot. I'm a big fan of Wahlberg and Denzell, so this was a win-win for me. They had good chemistry and the action scenes were solid. And Paula Patton is very easy on the eyes.

Scary Movie 5 - Dont see it under any circumstance. Girlfriend wanted to see it so we did, we didnt laugh and I wanted to gouge my eyes out within minutes of it starting....and it didnt get better from there. The moment the Wayans stopped making these they became horrendous and I see thats not changing anytime soon.

                          The Way Way Back

Saw this last night and really enjoyed it. Very good acting all around with Steve Carell playing a role I haven't seen him in and Sam Rockwell playing a role he plays frequently. Liam James plays the awkward teen really well, and AnnaSophia Robb is fantastic as the love interest. I have a feeling her career is going to skyrocket after this movie.

I highly recommend seeing this if you're into indie/coming of age movies.

2 Guns was awesome! Mark Wahlberg was hilarious throughout. Denzel was great too. Definitely my kind of action flick.

Star Trek: Best of Both Worlds. Awesome stuff. Probably the best 2-episode Star Trek TNG cliff hanger-conclusion. The Cmdr Shelby vs. Cmdr Riker exchanges were great.

The Sorcerer and the White Snake. This was pretty good--kept me entertained. A CGI-heavy forbidden love story starring Jet Li as a demon catching monk. I liked the ending.

                                Love Actually

Too many stories. A few British accents were too overbearing (somehow I never have this issue in Bond films). What would come off as a strong subplot finished with inconsistent grounding. You kind of know what you're going to get out of this film.

Now that I have expressed any negatives in this film, the rest is entirely positive... and I can even spin the negatives into positives if I wanted to. Too many stories? At least they were engaging, distinctive, and were supported by great cast members. The British accents? In a way, I think it helped strengthen the film, like the nature of the film and its comedy necessitated the accents (almost how some foreign horror films are creepier simply because they're foreign). Inconsistent grounding? I feel Richard Curtis (who I love for writing Pirate Radio) had a specific ending in mind that he wanted to make happen, so for the world to feel more 'connected' than not (which was a good idea), I'm guessing he was willing to sacrifice tonal consistency for the ending's sake. You kind of know what you're going to get out of this film? I sure hope so. Any sort of out-of-left-field twist or breakout would have ruined what was going for this British rom-com.

In case you haven't seen much about the movie, let me lay out some cast members who I recall were in this film: Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley, Liam Neeson, Laura Linney, Alan Rickman, and Bill Nighy. You even get some Rowan Atkinson, Billy Bob Thornton, and a few famous models thrown into there (you'll know them when you see them). Oh, and it has quite its share of nudity and F-bombs thrown into the mix as well.

I've been waiting to see a good romantic comedy again, and this one hit some pretty high notes. You have to bear with the number of stories going on though, so some parts take a while to get into. I feel some could have been more fleshed out/had a better conclusion, but none were too off their rockers.

Pretty solid film and wish I had seen it sooner.
