"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Well I finally got to see Ted and boy was it a good movie! Unfortunately the trailers and commercials gave away almost all the good jokes but the party montage was pretty funny and the interaction between Ted and his boss was HILARIOUS. The scene where he's hired had me howling.
It's true that the movie veers into schmaltz at the end but will overlook that because it totally plays against MacFarlane's M.O. in that when he's gone for the heartstrings he usually does an "FU" to that notion and pulls the rug from under you. At least with this movie he played fair. I was a little surprised at how conclusive it was as it definitely didn't leave room for a sequel which is refreshing but also a shame as I really liked the characters and the humor brought out by them.
My only real complaint about the movie is that MacFarlane should've come up with a different voice rather than basically his Peter Griffin voice. All in all though, fantastic movie 3 out of 4 stars.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Went and saw Flight last night with my wife. Denzel was great and John Goodman was funny as hell when he was on screen. Overall, it was an awesome movie. Go check it out.

Funny how I always watch movies that are on TV that I also own. Doesn't make much sense, but oh well.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Pumpkinhead, directed by the late great Stan Winston. Not a classic by any means, but far better than you'd expect from a movie called Pumpkinhead. Actually, it's far better than you'd expect from a movie where Lance Henriksen trying to sound southern, and really a pretty good movie overall. The monster Pumpkinhead itself is an outstanding bit of special effects work.
Basic plot summary:
SpoilerEd Harley and his son Billy live in a rather dry southern town, being happy, southern dog-owners. Six young "city-folk" with motorcycles wander into town, and in an accident while Ed is away, one of them runs over Billy. Since he's had some trouble with the law - in fact, he ran over a girl a month ago in a similar accident - he runs away, more-or-less dragging his girlfriend with him. The other four, being good samaritans try to help, but leave in order to get to a phone, leaving one behind. Ed comes back and is pretty PO'd at the dude, looking to find a woman who's essentially a witch to bring Billy back to life. Problem: She can't. The alternative is to summon the demon Pumpkinhead in vengeance. Bad things happen, and you can watch the movie for the rest.Minnesota Twins

Wreck It Ralph.
Really enjoyed this movie. I thought the premise was great and there's a ton of retro-gaming references in there that adults who take their kids to see this movie will appreciate.Currently Playing:
