Hunger Games. I enjoyed it even though the first half of the movie was pretty boring. I don't understand the hype about the movie. Maybe the books are a lot better.

7 Pychopaths. Christopher walken is classic. Woody Harrelson is funny as the bad guy. Def worth a watch. Hard to classify though. Part drama, comedy, and Stoner film.

Punch. Drunk. Love.
Movies that make you go whaaaaaa? for $400, Alex.
Don't get me wrong, it was good, but it's got Paul Thomas Anderson all over it. Definitely a fan of his work and will watch basically anything he directs, but darn it if PTA doesn't make you just wonder what the hell just happened after watching a film.
The plot seems all over the place. The music is sometimes deafening to the point it clearly overcomes some of the dialogue while simultaneously pumping your blood.
Adam Sandler is still a bit weird in this one and I can't not see his childish act when he talks, but he does a good job of channeling a dramatic combo-version of Billy Madison and the Water Boy.
Anything with Philip Seymour Hoffman suddenly cursing a storm and making you anticipate his hair falling out as spit flies in numerous directions is a supporting role worth watching.
I love it the more I think about it. I was halfway through and completely exhausted - just seconds away from turning off the film and watching the rest later - when suddenly Sandler's character performs one of his patented "flip outs" that made me want to see more.
Interesting film and one I will watch again.

From what my GF tells me, it's pretty much more of the same but over a bigger area. Oh, and the romance aspect is played up a little more.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
End of Watch with Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena.
Pretty solid movie. Pena and Gyllenhaal had a real nice dynamic as a cop duo and story was pretty good.
Definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a good police/action/drama.Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles

Had a 3 day weekend and watched a few movies.
Re-watched The Dark Knight Rises and Boogie Nights. My fiance had never seen Boogie Nights and she enjoyed it.
Went to Les Misérables in the theater this afternoon. Really liked it and thought the cast did a great job.GT: Herkyalert

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Django Unchained
I wish I re-watched Inglourious Basterds before seeing this tonight, just to get in the mood. Wouldn't have mattered with this awesome spectacle, but it doesn't matter either way. Tarantino really knows how to make a name for himself in his films, and I'm glad he and Christoph Waltz have some great rapport together, and that they work together again.
It was clever, funny, and bad-***. Foxx, Waltz, DiCaprio, and Jackson all put together very fine, unique roles. I was more entertained with this than I was with I.B., but it probably had to do with the amount of subtitles in the other film. Add the fact that this was a southern/western, and it just makes me want to jump back into Red Dead Redemption but with a Django DLC character.
Highly recommended.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
The Fog (1980)
I'm trying to watch most, if not all the movies reviewed by this guy on youtube most of which falls into the horror/slasher genres which aren't exactly in my wheelhouse BUT I'm trying to expand myself. Nonetheless it's quite a bit and i'm not being totally dedicated to it as i've got my oldies to watch as wellAnywho I started with The Fog (though by all rights I should've started with Assault on Precinct 13 (both versions) so will get to that after this)
Anyways....
The original The Fog is REALLY good. I love the atmosphere of the story as the score plays a major part in it and the acting was pretty good for the most part (the guy who played Dan the weatherman was kinda bad though) and there were 4 very capable actors in the lead roles in Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, her mom Janet Leigh and the late Hal Holbrook. Tom Atkins who played the male protagonist Nick was pretty solid as well. This was a very solid ghost story that didn't need any gore to get its point across and while it wasn't scary at all (and trust me I scare easily) it did have a very chilling effect at times.
One aspect that I liked a lot in this was how the story starts off pretty vaguely and seeing all hell breaking lose in the town with things falling down and car alarms going off etc etc and as the film progresses little pieces are added to the story where by the climax you know what's happening and the tension rises to the point that you genuinely worry about the main characters.
One last thing, I really loved the ending and it was a very good way of ending the movie. That part actually made me jump a little.SpoilerBasically after all the ghosts are gone after Father Malone gives the cross made out of the stolen gold to the head ghost we all think it's over but at the very end Malone is standing in the church, turns around and WHAM! He gets beheaded then the credits roll
Very solid movie and one would be hard pressed to dismiss it as a low budget affair as Carpenter hid that very well in his direction of the film. I fear watching the remake which will make probably piss me off LOL
Very solid, 3 starsMember of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Yeah the books are a lot better. I somewhat enjoyed the movie the first time around in theaters, saw it again with a friend and struggled to get through it. It is pretty boring, and takes awhile to get going.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Well I got around to watching the remake of The Fog....
The Fog (2005)
This was...How can I put it? Uninspired drivel. The acting was bland and wooden with the exception of DeRay Davis. You know a movie's terrible when the comedic relief is the best thing going for it. They changed too much of the story with unnecessary crap and then the ending which was totally ridiculous and confusing as hell.
The original film had a slower pace and used a lot of atmosphere while this movie seems to have a lot going on it feels SLOWER in some regards. There is very little atmosphere to it though I will give props to the special effects people with the fog and the ghosts. The film makers also unwisely lifted scenes right out of the original which made it easy to compare it directly to the original film.
There are quite a few "WTF are you doing" type moments too especially with Maggie Grace's Elizabeth character and DeRay Davis' character Spooner somehow survives getting killed by the ghosts in the boat by throwing himself in a freezer. It looks like he was in there overnight yet somehow he lived! It's just a bad film overall and one last example of that is that fog played a great part in how the town fathers killed the leper colony people and got the gold which started the town. In this movie fog had nothing to do with it!
Oh wait, I forgot to mention that they're celebrating the history of the town and it seems to still be a 100 year anniversary which would put this movie in 1971....except it's contemporary to 2005! This movie just hurts my head.
1 star due to the overall SFX and the one genuinely good scene when Stevie Wayne's kid is running to the house and the fog is following him.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
