Argo
Disappointing. Maybe my expectations were too high.
Silver Linings Playbook
Strong Cast. Predictable, yet enjoyable.
John Carter
Sucked. We couldn't even make it to the end.
Warrior
Great flick. Wish I hadn't waited so long to watch it.Comment

Nature Calls - Terrible, do not see. Not funny at all. With Patton Oswalt, Rob Riddle, and Johnny Knoxville I expected some comedy but the jokes and writing were very poor.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Green Lantern (3D). Was a bad movie in 2D and the 3D didn't add much. Rental at best.
Hugo (3D). Great story telling and very good 3D effects. Easy recommendation.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
The Expendables 2.
Straight up action and I loved it, but I have to say that this was several notches below the first film. I never felt invested in the story (not that there was going to be a deep story with a movie like this, but at least the first one had a few layers to it), as it was more like, OK here's JCVD and he's going to play the 'bad guy.' Let's try and take him down.
The action scenes in the beginning were cool, especially the Jet Li stuff. I was disappointed that he was only in the movie for like 5 minutes. I guess someone had to make room for Arnold, Bruce and Chuck.
The inside jokes about catch phrases and Chuck Norris making a Chuck Norris-esque joke were appreciated by me.
Not sure if I'd watch this one again (I've seen the first one several times), but I enjoyed watching it and that's all that matters.Currently Playing:

Looper
Just finished watching it. Definitely enjoyed it. Had a hard time following the movie at first, but as it went a long I began to understand it better. JGL was great as always. I was definitely surprised at the ending, but I get why they did it.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched a couple more of the Torchy Blane movies so you can just zip by this post if you like.
Blondes At Work is by far the best entry so far as the byplay between Farrell and MacLane is as natural as two people in love who are very competitive. In this entry though Blane is a lot more of a devious character and one can make the case that she's the villain of the piece as she does some VERY underhanded things to get her scoop such as compromising the dimwitted Gahagan to write a diary telling all about the case which is a bit hush hush because of Blane scooping the competition all the time. She has keys made to get into areas she shouldn't and manipulates things so that the other newspapers get the wrong story so she can get the right one. That last act puts her in contempt of court and she's actually thrown in jail at the end of the film!
Like I said this was the best in the series so far and not only are the leads very good but the supporting cast are quite good as well.
Torchy Blane in Panama has been the worst entry so far, Warner Brothers for some reason decided to dump Farrell and MacLane in favor of Lola Lane and Paul Kelly. On their own they're pretty good but together they have little chemistry. The key in the Blane/McBride relationship is their playful but sharp insult/teasing and the leads in this entry lack the kind of chemistry to pull it off as it feels more like two people who hate each other's guts. The mystery isn't all that great which has been the case with all the movies so far but because the leads can't capture the essence of their characters it all falls flat. This entry also has far too much of Gahagan's stupidity as well but he's actually necessary as it involves his lodge group. Interestingly, the beginning of the movie shows Gahagan in a parade with them and his lodge is 666. I found that funny in light of how we view that number today.
Anywho, this was very disappointing and bland which prompted Warners to put Farrell and MacLane back in the next film.
Next will be another comparison as i'll be looking at both versions of Assault on Precinct 13.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Silver Linings Playbook
Definitely deserves some of its acclaim, though not all of it. As a character-driven story, it does the job better than satisfactorily. Although character patterns become boringly predictable, moments often become unpredictable or slowly unravel as the film progresses.
It was also well cast; Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, and Chris Tucker all delivered very well, especially the two top billings. I wouldn't speak about "chemistry jumping off the page" or anything, but the molding didn't feel contrived one bit.
David O. Russell does a good job at making an audience antsy and unnerved at characters and their inner turmoils. I wanted to yell at the screen or resolve problems for everybody, and this was all in a good way. I thought the actors complemented this notion all too well.
So as I said, I think it earns some of its praise, and it definitely made me laugh some too. It never takes up too much time on screen either, even though you sit back wondering what the last resolving issue is supposed to be. I'd recommend it for Cooper and Lawrence alone.Last edited by Blzer; 01-27-2013, 01:30 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters.
I like Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner, which is why I went to see it (more for Gemma than Jeremy though). It was OK, I guess. I've seen worse, but I've seen much much better too.
Two of the previews were for a Jack and the Beanstalk movie and a takeoff on the Wizard of Oz. I'd say Hollywood has officially run out of ideas.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
It was so bad, I didn't wanna see it.
and in that vein.......
I always prided myself on the time I saved, not watching Windtalkers, but that ended last night. Now Windtalkers is even with me. This had to be THE worst war movie I had ever seen. I could almost see the cape on Nicholas Cage. And the guy who played the Navajo who is in Hell on Wheels, I believe, is a dreadful, dreadful actor.Last edited by daflyboys; 01-27-2013, 09:12 PM.Comment
