Ended up watching Kingdom of Heaven, but this time the Director's Cut(story made more sense with the added scenes). Not a huge fan of Orlando Bloom, but he was alright. The actor who played Saladin was pretty good. Add in a surprising role for Ed Norton as well.
The actor who played Saladin's lieutenant/right hand man was the actor who played the doctor on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. Found that surprising and did not recognize him.

Ed Norton did a LOT with a little in this film...great character. And Ridley got a lot out of Bloom, he turned in a good performance here.

And that's so that you will remember it.

Ed Norton as Baldwin was easily my favorite character in the movie. Lots of personality, all hidden behind a mask.

Finally got around to seeing Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Loved it. Really was able to relate to it.

Badlands - Watching this I feel like Michael Sheen is pretty underrated as an actor. I know his name has major clout now, but very rarely do I see people name dropping him while seeing the countless lists featuring DeNiro, Pacino, Redford, Brando, etc. Between this and Apocalypse Now Sheen shows he can handle transformations and psychotics as he basically plays a serial killer, rockabilly cowboy on the lam with teenage girlfriend Sissy Spacek who wears the shortest white shorts in recorded history. Overall the story is pretty straight forward, but the real pull for me is Sheen's performance and the atmosphere of the film. It is very off-beat and fills its own cup with equal parts teenage lovers' fantasy, school age innocence, and off-kilter flashes of action.

Contagion-About a plague that spreads around the world. Pretty interesting and a good watch. Kinda bored me in some spots. I wouldn't say it's something you need to go watch right away but If you gets some free time and nothing else to do, it's a decent watch. I'd give it a 6.5/10

This is 40-Ehhh. This movie gave me a few good chuckles, but overall it was not good. It wasn't really too funny except for a few parts. Overall I was bored and would not recommend this one. Maybe if you see it on TV one day then watch it, but don't spend any money to rent or buy. The youngest daughter on it is pretty funny, oh but at least Leslie Mann is decent to look at, can you say cougar? Lol. I'll give it a 3/10, maybe 4

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

              I finally saw....

              42!

So did it live up to expectations? I think it did though it's not a completely perfect film. I'll keep this as non spoilery as I can. First of all I have to say that Harrison Ford owned this movie much to the detriment to Chadwick Boseman who played Jackie Robinson. It's not that Boseman was bad per se it's just that he wasn't given much to work with as Jackie was presented as a very one note personality. The few times we got to see other aspects of Robinson's personality were great but it was too little IMO. Harrison Ford on the other hand WAS Branch Rickey. They had contemplated putting Ford in a fat suit but I don't think that would've worked as he consumed his role as it is.

I watched some clips of the real Branch Rickey after watching this and the mannerisms and voice that Ford used was pretty much dead on. There was a strong resemblance in their faces as well. Originally the role was going to go to Robert Redford but i'm glad that never panned out as I think Redford while a great actor wouldn't have been right for the role. One user on IMDB made the poor comparison between Rickey's portrayal to that of Mickey in Rocky. The comparison just floored me because Rickey was a real person who had to help Jackie along. We live in a society where even a fraction of what Robinson had to endure would be enough to start up violence and yet Robinson took the most humiliating and dehumanizing abuse one can and had to keep himself from NOT fighting back. Obviously said reviewer didn't bother to think of the context of the times.

As for the story, I think there was a missed opportunity thematically though I can probably understand why it wasn't dwelled upon as it would've pushed the runtime to 2 1/2 hours however to make this a more well rounded and better story I think it could've accommodated the indulgence. I think the film makers swept the Montreal experience under the rug to the detriment to the story. It's generally known that Montreal accepted Robinson right from the start and the treatment he got in Canada was equal to, if not more fair than he got in his home town of Pasadena. Canada was always much more open and flexible when it comes to race relations after all, it did play a huge part in the underground railroad in the 1860s. I think focusing some time on Jackie's life in Montreal where he was a beloved figure and then having to go back to a situation where not only he was getting abuse from players but the general populace would've been a great way to show that Robinson needed to knuckle down and harden himself up to the burden that he was to shoulder. It would've been a good juxtaposition of what the future could be compared to the present of a racist society.

Other than that the story was well done and while it did focus a lot on baseball you don't NEED to be a baseball fan to understand or like the movie. It wasn't dead serious 100% of the time either what with Rickey's exchange on the phone with Durocher in the middle of the night and then saying how adultery is a sin and of course there's the whole "take a shower with me" scene later in the movie which was pretty funny.

One last thing and I'll put this in spoiler:

              Spoiler

So overall this was a well done movie and probably the best baseball film of the 2010s. As I said it's not perfect but it comes pretty close. I give this 3 1/2 stars.

You and I both. I mean my last name is even Robinson for Christ's sake.

Maybe because I think it's just too... mainstream? I don't really know how else to put it. It's World Trade Center when there's a United 93 out there somewhere.

Hilarious movie, probably only just behind Man Of Steel in terms of of most enjoyable summer movie i've seen. The minions had me laughing the entire time especially the singing at the end.

I've realized that I honestly just don't like sports movies. They're almost all cheesy over-acted parodies of themselves at this point.

Except Field of Dreams. Bitches love Field of Dreams.

Pacific Rim (3D) - As epic as they come. It was simple and it was tight not wasting a damn thing. I loved all the tropes and scene-chewing galore that this thing is not to mention how many genres I found myself ticking off. At parts it is a WWII drama that dives into 80s action and revolves back around with big-mechs being big-badasses.

I guess I meant to say that this version is nonexistent when it probably should be/should have in the first place.

Eventually I'll see 42, but it's probably just a bit too glamorized and "predictable" (not his story, but what they'll use in the film). I understand that I am judging a book by its cover, but it's also a judgment of what I will pay to see. There's no doubt I'll see it at some point, but the theater was not going to be that place.

EDIT: What Dayman said is what I was going for. Yet, I'm probably the only one here who likes Mr. 3000 (still want a Blu-ray version to come out).

I understand your point Blzer I was just giving you a hard time. There are some movies that are pumped out these days that are a waste of time to see in a theatre unless it's got TONS of SFX that demands the big screen treatment.
