    Gangster Squad.

It was ok. Really historically inaccurate and way too much like an unrealistic superhero movie for my taste. Could have been great. Missed opportunity.

    6/10.

Watched the original Austin Powers movie tonight. Good Lord, I don't know if there was a more beautiful woman in the world than Liz Hurley at that time. Just absolutely stunning.

        Savages.

Good, fun story directed by Oliver Stone. Plenty of action with decent dialogue and story.

Crazy you mention that Quint. I had the hugest crush on Liz Hurley back then.
          Agreed, absolutely gorgeous.

I loved her in Bedazzled. The rest of the movie, not so much.

              Cloud Atlas.

Wow. Just amazing. Amazing acting, directing, storytelling in every way. Left me emotional and made me truly think about life as we know it. I can tell this is the kind of movie that will stay inside my head for weeks.

I think it's not as good as the Cook/Moore original, but I thought it still had some really funny moments in the re-telling. And Liz......whoooo-boy.

The original Bedazzled is a hoot. Alas, no Liz Hurley. But it does have Raquel Welch, and a little known beauty named Eleanor Bron, who first came on the scene in The Beatles' movie Help!

Finally saw Thor: The Dark World last night. Really enjoyed it. Especially liked the Kurse character. Could have done without the Kat Dennings character. Annoying as hell she is.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Watched a documentary today (apparently it's still running in some theaters out there but it was on my On Demand channel) called Dear Mr. Watterson: An Exploration of Calvin & Hobbes.

This was a very heartfelt and well meaning documentary that had some interesting insights from various people (mostly fellow cartoonists) about the strip, what made it work and the its enduring legacy. I especially found the conversation about Watterson's aversion to licensing out his strip to be interesting and thought provoking. The main problem with the documentary IMO was that it felt just a little too subjective and felt like a love letter to its subject rather than being a little more analytical though the cartoonists interviewed did provide some great analysis of what made the strip work so well. It's just that the documentary felt a little too enthused about the subject rather than being more objective.

That being said, as a fan of Calvin & Hobbes this was a fantastic look at everything about it from the creation of the strip, the original artwork, the influence of Watterson's home town on the strip's look and the push and pull of Watterson's artistic view of the medium of cartooning vs the commercial aspect that is part and parcel of the business.

It's a very good documentary and my one complaint is really just nitpicking. I give this a strong *** stars.

                            Paranoia.

Pretty much what I thought it was going to be. It's hard to watch Oldman and Ford fall so far, simply to help feature Thor's brother in a movie with half of the scenes featuring his shaved torso. If you saw the trailer.... you saw the movie (as I suspected).

Whatever the second hunger games movie was called (catching fire?) Just got back from it.

Only one scene (the "love" scene) felt contrived and made me dislike it. Better than I expected otherwise.
