TITE - I was surprised at a few of the moments and how hard I laughed. You had to be a good sport to be in this film, Franco LOL. It was entertaining but glad I rented vs going to the theater.GO 'HAWKS!

X-Men First Class (2011)
HOLY MOLY!
This was an excellent film. Director Mathew Vaughn deserves a ton of credit for this in terms of how the movie looked and felt to the viewer. The movie captures that 1960s feeling very well. It's equal parts comic book come to life and James Bond in its execution. Kevin Bacon's acting as Sebastian Shaw would fit right in with the Connery Bond villains for sure.
The story revolving around the origins and backstories of Magneto and Xavier was the right way to go here and I thought this iteration of Xavier was interesting as he started out as a cocky punk of a guy but by the end of the film he had matured somewhat closer to the Xavier we know and love. Meanwhile we get to see what Magneto had to go through and how his need for revenge manifested itself at first against Shaw and then by the end of the movie he had completely turned to focus that rage against humanity.
The idea of Shaw's villainous plot essentially being the Cuban Missile Crisis was just genius stuff and it gives the "defending the world that hates us" context of the X-men a definitive meaning by using a real event as the catalyst for their formation and such.
I really liked this film A LOT and in fact I give this ***** stars.
I will definitely be watching Days of Future Past.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Yep, I think he liked it
Great writeup as always, SPTO, thank you.
I enjoyed this film as well, I was not charmed by the prospect of another Hollywood reboot, but they executed it so well I'm in for the sequel as well.
Great casting, especially Fassbender who is fast-becoming a Swiss Army Knife actor who can do it all; indie stuff, blockbusters, comedy. Great actor.GO 'HAWKS!

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Saw The Wolf of Wall Street today.
I thought it was well-made and well-acted, but this was one of the few times in my life where I've gone to the theaters to see a movie and came away wishing I hadn't gone. I'm usually easily entertained, but something about the movie rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it's just the horrible messages/glorification in the film or something. I'm not sure. But it just irked me. I'm fine with the the sex scenes and the drug scenes and everything, but the movie itself just wasn't very enjoyable for me.NFL: Bills

As crazy as that may seem though? Scorsese's depiction of the decade may actually be spot on or even just a tad underplayed. That decade was just crazy on top of crazy and it's where the mentality of "he who has the most toys wins" ruled in almost every aspect of society.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I haven't seen the movie myself though it's on my "whenever the hell I get a chance to watch it" list and one thing i've heard is that Scorsese REALLY amps up the 1980s excess to the point that it's almost cartoony and unbelievable.

Yeah, like I said, it wasn't really the crazy sex and drugs and stuff that rubbed me the wrong way. I think it's just the overall concept of the movie. It kinda disgusted me that they glorify a guy like this that was such an ******* to everyone, glorified prison, and basically taught us that if you break every law in your profession and go to prison, you can use that as a career to make even more millions than you already had. I had a guy like the protagonist come to my school to teach us about all the warning signs that you're in too deep in regards to how illegal your financial work is, and it just irritates me that these guys are supposed to go to prison to learn what they did was wrong, and they can come out of prison and have pretty much just as much money because they can just write a book or give speeches about what they "learned".
Anyways, it just kinda irritated me and rubbed me the wrong way. On the flip side, it made me happy that I'm going an alternative route in the financial world instead of doing the kind of work that the protagonist does.NFL: Bills

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Murder on Approval/Barbados Quest (1955)
Man....The British at this point in time were terrible at making crime/whodunit dramas. This movie is essentially The Falcon or The Saint done up in the British manner. To top it off they hired Tom Conway to play the lead and boy, alcoholism had done this guy no favors. He was 50ish at the time of this movie but looked 10-15 years older, was barely alert and with it and had the delivery of a guy who's been drinking his *** off. His acting is pretty much how the movie felt overall. It was listless, boring and even the patter seemed a bit off.
Sadly, i'll be reviewing the next film of this (aborted) series next week.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Went and saw Lone Survivor's first showing at the theater. Very good movie. Heart wrenching, sad, action packed. Overall a very good movie, I'd recommend seeing it. Mark Wahlberg does it again in a very good action movie.St. Louis Cardinals | Milwaukee Bucks | Los Angeles Rams
