I couldn't narrow it down to 10, so will put top 15 in no order

      Grand Budapest Hotel
      Lego Movie
      Chef
      X-Men Days of Future Past
Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
      Boyhood
      Guardians of the Galaxy
      Get on Up
      Captain America 2: Winter Soldier
      The Equalizer
      John Wick
      Gone Girl
      Raid 2
      Nightcrawler

      Disappointed and Worst

      300 Rise of an Empire
      Blended
      Think Like a Man too
      The Legend of Hercules
      Expendables 3
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
      The Other Woman
      Anchorman 2
      Noah
      Lucy
And that movie had a lot of balls being 2+ hours long.............. I'm still not right. Goes right in with Caddyshack 2 and Blues Brothers 2000. Terrible!

I'm in the small company who didn't think Blues Brothers 1 was all that great.

Watched "Shooter" on Netflix. I can't remember seeing this before, but probably did. Good story. Ending was over the top, but......

My top 10 theatrical viewings this year, which also might be in proper order:

          Interstellar
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
          Chef
          Edge of Tomorrow
          Captain America: The Winter Soldier
          The LEGO Movie
          X-Men: Days of Future Past
          Non-Stop
          The Purge: Anarchy
          Guardians of the Galaxy

I missed out on a significant number pf movies released the last half of the year that I wanted to see, mostly because of lack of time and then my still ongoing concussion. That said, this list would have probably been much different if I saw more films.

            Heaven Is For Real

After my father's death in August, my mom and I decided to pop this on New Year's Eve. We always need signs, if you know what I mean.

The movie was just okay, didn't ultimately amount to much. I'm not one to speak about the religious facets anyway, but in the end I don't know what "based on a true story" means in the case of this film, and how accurately everything was depicted alongside the facts (or at least the book the father wrote).

The real problem with this movie is... if you've seen the trailer, you've seen the movie. So if you don't want to spend some money and 105 minutes watching the film, maybe just spend 150 seconds watching the trailer on YouTube for free, and your impressions of the film will not really be any different than your impressions if you saw the entire thing. I almost don't blame the trailer though, because I feel like it showed exactly what it would need to show for butts to get into seats; the film was substantially lacking is all. I mean how much can you do if you're trying to be based off a true story though, right? That's what leads this to just be mediocre.

Top Movies of the year for me:

              Interstellar

              Gone Girl

              Guardians of the Galaxy

I'm sure that I'm missing a few that I have seen but these stick out the most.

I know exactly what you mean in terms of the trailer and the production value. I've said in some other thread (I think) that faith-based movies in general are lacking in production/presentation. And let's face it, trailers in general are just showing too much. However, if you want an upcoming faith-based movie that may just start to break through the production value needs, look in the recent thread I started (Less-Than-Blockbusters Trailers) at the first trailer listed and tell me if you don't agree.

I'm not sure I understand or agree with your last statement about how much you can do if based off a true story. There are countless movies that do quite a bit with that angle. Maybe it was your wording, though.

Sorry, what I meant was I don't know how much you can do based off a true story that already has so little to work with if you're trying to stay authentic. Like I said, in this case they basically tried to stretch out a two-and-a-half minute trailer into a feature-length film. I mean I wasn't bored with it or anything, but it wasn't substantially more fulfilling than the trailer was when all was said and done.

"True story" movies normally get flack in one of two directions, though: they're either too much like the real thing and are too boring, or they are not enough like the real thing. The only true story film that I own that appears both authentic and overly engrossing is United 93, and I think that's why I appreciate it so much. Anything that is not exactly as was on that day isn't an intended effect.

I'll be checking out that other thread in a bit. I agree though (and I've griped about it quite a lot) that trailers show way too much. I just thought this was the case where the trailer didn't feel like it "showed everything," but then I watched the movie and was very surprised when I saw that it did.

Blzer, I'm so sorry for your loss. Having lost my Mom recently, it's tough. Watching a movie like that, and I mean from the subject matter view point, would be a challenge, the littlest things conjure up the pain.

I hate trailers. I avoid trailers like the plague. Knowing how trailers are constructed, it's not hard to know what parts of the trailer is part of the climax, etc.

But ya know, when teasers are done right, it can be enticing enough to want to see the film.

Well, went nostalgic today..... "Running Scared" with Crystal and Hines. Probably my favorite Crystal movie and definitely my favorite partners movie. I would have loved a follow up movie, but we lost Gregory Hines way too young. Followed up with "When Harry Met Sally" mainly to see how it held up. Not too badly imo. Of course, the restaurant scene is a classic, especially knowing that's Crystal's mother at the next table.

True. Just seems most trailers are much more than that anymore.

I agree with your assessment. I didn't realize the movie could be so uninspiring and downright boring.
