    Equilibrium .....
A lot of borrowed plot lines......but not a bad futuristic movie.

    Christian Bale stars.

Actually, I'm curious. Besides some borrowed style elements from The Matrix, what other movies have some similar plot lines? I'd like to see them, because I love Equilibrium.

Co-sign. Movie had great style and execution. Bale's character is in my top 3 all time cinema badasses.

Even going as far as to invent a new style of fighting for the movie. Wonder if it's still on Netflix...

I feel there's some Blade Runner thrown in there.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

So I watched a couple old westerns (one review will be up this week the other will be up next week) I don't want to necessarily go into a mini review here but rather note something.

The first movie was a Civil War type drama but it's got Western sensibilities hence being in that genre and the other is a revolutionary tale set in 1915 Mexico. Here's the thing, the first movie The Raid from 1954 and The Treasure of Pancho Villa from 1955 might as well have been a decade apart. The difference in style, tone and storytelling is like night and day.

The Raid is a deceptively simple story where the message is conveyed through subtlety. It's also a very "by the books" film in terms of craft (not so much in story as it sympathizes the Confederacy) but Pancho Villa comes across as a proto- Wild Bunch or spaghetti western in it's griminess, characters who are a bit out of the box, including a slightly insane schoolteacher played by Shelley Winters and being particularly violent for the time period. The latter film eschewed clean and technically proficient production for something that was raw and had a feel of realism.

I just thought i'd share that before going into any kind of big review over the next two Wednesdays.

I will be reviewing the 2006 Canadian cop flick Bon Cop Bad Cop tonight.

I saw Rush finally and it was a kickass movie.

The 70s feel was nailed perfectly, it was interesting on all fronts and all characters.

Extremely well done in my opinion.

Fast and Furious 6 -- Heheh, check your brain at the door, but this was a lot of fun and entertaining like the rest of the series. There's a couple of 'really??' moments (how long is that runway?) but it's all in good fun and I didn't care because I like the characters. You know it's over the top when you go in anyway.

This has been an enjoyable series for me, driven (heh) by likable characters, hot chicks, cool rides and nifty driving sequences.

The first time we see Paul Walker's character, Brian, he is holding his baby son with Mia, and then Dom (Diesel) approaches. Brian says to his son in that 'daddy voice', "Look! It's your uncle Dom!" and then Dom gave Brian's son a toy muscle car to usurp the 'import' Nissan his dad had given him. That was kinda heartbreaking to watch because Vin and Paul WERE really close and had that kind of family relationship. Surprisingly at the end of the film, it's not Paul or his character you might shed a single tear for.

Anyway, good film and a strong one in the series.

                    RIP Paul.

From the trailer at least, it doesn't look dark or gritty enough to be in the Blade Runner genre. I was thinking more like Ultraviolet.

There's a relationship plot that is similar between the films.

Someone mentioned Blade Runner and Ultraviolet...I think the vibe from either is a good comparison...not anything specific.

                              The Iceman

Decent enough. Had a random James Franco cameo. Expected more considering the cast involved. 5/10

                              End of Watch

Fantastic. The cast nailed their characters perfectly. Only problem for me was the ending felt rushed. Other than that I can't think of anything else to complain about. 8.5/10
