Affleck was fine for this Batman world, probably better than Bale in that regard.

I liked Bale's Batman and Bruce Wayne, though. Wasn't a fan of the voice in some respects, but otherwise I very much enjoyed it. Don't know if it "fits" in Zack Snyder's work, though.

      The Big Short

Wow, what a movie. I'm not normally in drama's, but this one one was great. Bale was amazing in this one, not surprising he won best supporting actor for this role. Physically made me hurt that the banks were taking advantage of consumers, and continue to do so.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Caught up on some movies the past two weekends...

The Big Short- Ryan Gosling and his sidekick cracked me up. Margot Robbie was excellent. And I believe Christian Bale coulda/shoulda won the oscar. One of 3 5/5s I'd give movies from 2016 (Revenant, Mad Max)

Spotlight-I was really hesitant on this one due to the perceived content, but it was really well done. Great acting, pretty riveting story actually. But, wouldn't have been my pick for Best Picture. 4/5

The Night Before- I had a few chuckles. I like Rogen movies more often than not, but this one was pretty uninspired. 2.5/5.

The Hateful Eight- I've seen most (maybe all) of Tarantino's work, but this is bottom of the barrel. The entirety of the first half is extremely boring. It gets slightly better in the second half, but not that much. 2.5/5.

Creed- The best Rocky movie since the original. Maybe even better than the original, imo. Glad they finally took the series in a new direction, instead of putting old man Sly back in the ring again. 4.5/5.

Concussion- Luke Wilson is bad. Will Smith's accent is bad. Movie was still good. Makes me somewhat nervous to let my kid someday play football, or at least not let them play if they would be coached by some same type of idiots that coached me. 4/5.

                        Jungle Book

Fantastic. The cgi was breathtaking, the best of all time imo. The way all the animals looked and moved was almost flawless. Voices were great too. Left with a big smile on my face.

(re bone tomohawk) I was mixed, but liked it in the end. I really liked the dialogue and laughed out loud at times getting a kick out of it. A good example is the old man wanting to take a bath and read at the same time and kirk russell tells him how to solve his problem while he's half asleep with a hat over his face. I don't think there's enough 'meat' like that in a lot of films and it really drives home the types of characters they are in my opinion.

It wasn't spectacular by any stretch but I'm glad i watched it and think it's a decent flick.

regarding the hateful eight sentiments - I think this one was different because of the format. I think Quentin and his DP got caught up in the super 70mm format (one of only 11 or so other features shot this way in history)
I did think visually it was a treat, but I a very real way I agree that it can't carry a movie. Another thing that bothered me was too much N-bombs. I know it's quentin and so on, but as far as the story goes there was too much of a focus on it - especially since Samuel L Jackson's character wasn't the reason d'etre for the movie and was just there by chance. I did enjoy the movie but also agree it's probably quentin's worst movie. I liked deathproof and don't really compare it to normal big budget movies because it was a different beast.

regarding the big short - all I'll add is that I'm a film/tv guy trained in film-making and I've never seen editing like that in a big feature like that before. It was revolutionary and fit the film, but at the same time I hope it doesn't catch on because it only really suits that particular film and the way it was written/shot/etc. It was great - one of my wife's friends said it was 'slow' and after I was thinking ...wtf? slow?

Finally saw Creed tonight and loved it, so did my wife who is far from a fan of the Rocky movies. Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone were both amazing in the film. Looking forward to seeing where they go with the second installment.

Crazy to think this movie almost didn't get made. Glad someone finally stepped up and made it happen.

Another freebie for me this week along with Batman vs Superman.

Tina Fey is great... perfect mix of serious and humor that had the theater rolling a few times. It was very well cast and worth watching more than once.
