Rewatched X Men Days of Future Past for the first time in a while. I think it's one of the best superhero movies that have been made. Other than Lawrence as Mystique I don't think there's a bad casting in the movie and the extended scene with Rogue is a nice touch (although I wish it wouldn't have been cut from the original run).

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I watched a couple classic '50s Sci-Fi flicks over the last couple days:
Invaders from Mars (1953) and This Island Earth (1955). Both are excellent for the era they were made in and the former was especially evocative and spooky for the kids back then. I could imagine IFM giving young kids quite the willies. I love how some of the sets were designed as the camera angles plus the largeness of the sets made it like a nightmare world as the kid is dwarfed by objects. This is most prominent in the police station scene.
Overall, if you're looking for interesting 50s sci-fi you can't go wrong with either film. Actually, I believe This Island Earth was spoofed on MST3K so you could watch that version if you want to LOL.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I saw "All the Way" on HBO last night. It's the story of LBJ's first year in office after JFK's assassination and the passing of the Civil Rights Bill of 1964. It was pretty dang good imo.
It was educational about LBJ for those who only know about him from Vietnam. He did get some really major positive things done domestically in his first few years before Vietnam painted his Presidency a failure. It was also pretty entertaining mainly because Bryan Cranston was so good in his role. I bet Cranston will win an Emmy for it.Comment

"Are you boys building an interocitor up there??"
MST3K is probably the movie I've laughed the hardest at, or at certainly up there with Naked Gun and Hot Shots. Amazing stuff.
I watched a great little film on Netflix called "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World", and stars Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. Excellent performances by them, and its kind of a sweet story between these two characters with some gallows humor in the first half of the film. I thought it was a touching and rewarding watch, and gave me even more respect for Keira's acting, as well as Steve's.GO 'HAWKS!

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I think I saw part of that, but didn't finish it for one reason or another a while back. I really lilke Carrell's acting as well....thought he was really good in The Big Short and Dan in Real Life. I'd like to see him get away from the silly roles and tackle more of what he's capable of in the dramatic. My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I have that movie on my "queue" so to speak but I won't see it for sometime so thanks for the great review. I will recommend that you watch another HBO production from 2002 directed by John Frankenheimer (his last film BTW) called Path to War. It's the spiritual sequel to All The Way as it covers the mid '60s period when LBJ and his foreign policy team wrestled with the Vietnam crisis. Michael Gambon played LBJ to near perfection and does a wonderful job. You really get the sense of how much that war troubled him and ultimately sucked the life out of him.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Yep an HBO movie from 2002 it should be on Netflix or maybe you might find a DVD copy at a local library. That's how I first saw it. I warn you though, it's 2 hrs 45 mins long but well worth the watch. Alec Baldwin is in it as well and actually does a pretty good job as Secretary of Defense Robert MacNamara.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
TMNT 2 was on Syfy today, haven't seen it in a long time. I can't get into the two new movies, something about the cheapy suits of the original movies make them for me.

The new movies also don't have the greatest cheesy rap song ever

anywho....
The other night I happened to watch one of the funniest and entertaining blaxploitation movies i've ever seen in 1973's Cleopatra Jones. The star (Tamara Dobson) was pretty wooden and didn't have the greatest acting chops in the world but she was helped by having so many different and fun characters in the film.
I really loved the role of Doodlebug played by Antonio Fargas. I really wished he could've made it through the entire film. There was something so entertaining and funny about how he played his role. If you can catch this I encourage you to check out the film.
