Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985): Wow, I hadn't seen this movie in YEARS. A lot of it was pretty surreal and actually quite juvenile but there was a charm and innocence to it that made it fun. I forgot just how zany that movie was as Paul Reubens just killed it as Pee-Wee. Everything just clicked and it's definitely one of the top movie debuts of all time both for an actor and director. (This was Tim Burton's first full length feature)
Pee-Wee's Big Holliday (2016): Well...Reubens can't quite recapture what made Pee-Wee Herman work in the first place. He actually looked a little strange what with the tons of makeup and such to make him look as close as possible to what he did in the mid '80s. He also can't do the Pee-Wee voice as well as he used to. All this doesn't matter though as the movie is pretty much a beat for beat re-imagining of "Adventure". In some respects this movie was even MORE zanier and towards the end I think it suffered from trying to one up the previous segment. The segment with Farmer Brown and his daughters was definitely the standout what with all 9 daughters trying to win Pee-Wee's love LOL! You also got to love Joe Manganiello completely spoofing his image and becoming Pee-Wee's friend and the guy that encourages Pee-Wee to leave the town of Fairville and live life a little.
The movie loses a bit of steam towards the end but I thought it was a worthy update of a classic '80s flick.
