Back in the archives, Mr. Saturday Night. I'm not sure how I missed this one along the way. One of the movie you mean to get to watch, then forget about it. I'm in the minority I'm sure, but I thought this was so well done and very touching in parts. Crystal and Paymer are believable as actual brothers and played off each other very well. When Crystal started out in his career I remember really disliking him, but I grew to admire his ability to mimic while paying tribute (like in his Negro League baseball skit on SNL, of course, Sammy Davis Jr., etc.) If you haven't seen this, ignore the IMDBs and RottenTomatos on this one and sit back.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
OK, this cracked me up. 1992. I was dating a girl in college (Bible college, mind you). We were getting serious and it was one of those nights together where things finally clicked. So we went out to eat. And then it was clear things were getting a bit "handsy" so we went to a movie theater. Figured this was our best bet to make out. I didn't care what movie it was. So I picked this movie. I remember the opening couple minutes. And that's about it...Comment

I’ve only seen the 2009 one before. Originally posted by redsox4evurYea that's the one I watched, the one from 2009. The one from 2017 was a short according to IMDB, and honestly I didn't even know it was made.
You might be right. Maybe the newer reboot still has yet to be made, or was completely axed.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon yesterday. First time seeing it in years. My wife didn't really care for it, and I have to admit that it hasn't aged that well (mostly the flashback scene). Still going to check out Sword of Destiny soon though.Comment

Turistas
I loved how intense this was. A prolonged final act for sure (with a kind of massive plot hole embedded within it that irked me). I thought it became naturally unsettling and gave me a rooting interest in the protagonists. I had a few lighting and editing quips that made it tough to determine which character we were following at times (since there were many of them and a lot of darker scenes), and they had some interesting choices in when to provide subtitles for Portuguese-spoken dialogue that I actually agreed with from a directing standpoint.
If you're into this kind of horror, I actually recommend it. It takes itself pretty seriously throughout, if that matters to you. Not especially campy, though rather gratuitous.

By all accounts, this was actually pretty good. The movie did feel a bit incomplete, though; not only would I have not minded an epilogue of sorts, but I just felt the escalation of moments came to be without filling some of the gaps in between that made it so. Octavia Spencer really gave in to her role which was important for the film to work, and it was nice to see age-appropriate teen actors who really felt the part. They lack the ability to make a certain logical decision throughout the film's entirety sadly, but I think that would have meant no film if so heh.
It wasn't the awkward feeling like I got from watching Greta. This one was actually passable as a film, but again with a little more gap-filling needed.Last edited by Blzer; 03-18-2020, 05:42 AM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
- The Outsider: 6/10 Spoiler[It was fine, but I thought it was going to be a "straight up" serial killer or something of the like and not have supernatural elements. Some details of the last episode bother me:
- At the end Holly and Ralph seemed very hesitant to risk their lives and the cave caving in, I think them knowing what the stakes were it seems a curious choice.
- Why did Ralph's wife set the chair on fire right away in the middle of the night? Nothing suspicious about that
Only her, Ralph and Holly knew about the "substance" so why the rush? None of the investigators would knew to even look for it so they could have disposed of the chair in a discrete manner in the morning.
- Alibi or no alibi I don't see how the story Ralph & company told at the end about Jack Hoskins being responsible for the shooting throws off investigators off Claude being a suspect after they had him in video trying to abduct that kid. I think it was explained but I didn't get it and didn't care enough to replay that part.]
- Four Rooms: 6/10
- Richard Jewell: 6/10 Spoiler[I don't understand what they did with this movie's billing. Paul Walter Hauser's character is clearly the lead character in the film, so why is he getting an "and" billing? Even if Rockwell is getting too big for his britches (don't know this to be true) because of his Oscar all you had to do was give Rockwell 1st billing and Walter Hauser 2nd billing. Weird. And Walter Hauser is another guy that should have been nominated over Jonathan Pryce.]
- Darkman II: The Return of Durant: 4/10 [Yeah, no.]
- Darkman III: Die Darkman Die: 4/10 [Yes Darkman, die.]
- House of Cards: The Final Cut: 6/10 [Commendable job maintaining a consistently high quality of writing throughout the series.]
- Daylight: 5/10
- Ghosts of Mississippi: 6/10
- 1917: 7/10 [An achievement.]
- Sling Blade: 7/10

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Just out of curiosity what type of movies would you give a 9/10 or 10/10 to? Not trying to be vacuous or anything. I genuinely curious since you are a tough grader of movies.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Rented "The Big Short" for the 3rd time (I think). Just love this movie and how it put so much into perspective to why I personally went through such crazy times during the financial crisis of 2007-08.
I'm a sucker for corporate/working man type movies, so another one I watched was "The Company Men", which has a host of stars. It is a powerful movie, and personal for me of going through that corporate America ladder.Comment
