    Re: Skyfall

Not really a huge James Bond movie fan(I've only seen everything that came out after Goldeneye)but I went ahead and caught the 12:40 show on Saturday Night and thought it was very good.

Loved the Shanghai scene and also loved the opening credits as well. Wasn't really feeling Bardem at first but as the movie went on, I started to appreciate him more and more.

Loved it. I'm not a huge Bond fan, but this was really, really well done. To be short, I liked how it pushed away from the constant explosions and over the top action while still feeling like a big adrenaline rush. I'm not sure how to properly say this, but it felt much for like a Bond film that CR or QOS. It just felt like it had it's own...air.

I'm glad to see some positive reaction. I vowed to wait for my friends, instead of going to see it this past weekend. I had a girl wanting to go, but we decided to do something else.

I've planned a "man date" with my buddies for this coming weekend. I have a few friends coming up from Tuscaloosa and a few coming from Auburn, along with the ones who still live close.

Looking to hit up some food and drinks and then catch this in Imax, simply for the stellar audio that comes with it.

Being brief, for me, it's the best Bond film ever, by a wide margin. Best Bond, best villain, best story, best supporting characters, in my opinion of course.

But I'm one who loves Quantum of Solace, so take it for what you will.

Out of the Craig, Bond films, I think this is my second favorite.

Casino Royale is still my personal favorite.

Not saying I didn't like this movie, but it had a different feel to it.

However, the locales were shot brilliantly. Probably my favorite Bond movie to look at on screen.

Well as promised here's my additional comment:

I like the fact that the screenwriters took a theme and ran with it. The whole "old ways in a modern world" backdrop to the story was brilliantly done and I liked how

Went to see it last night but feel asleep through half of it, now I going to have wait for it to come out on DVD to watch again since most people think its a great movie. I'm really not a big Bond fan though, I only saw one other one, the one with Halle Berry. The only reason I went to go see this one was because my girl likes Bond.

For its feel, it was great. I think they're diving back into "Bond" territory again, where CR and QoS didn't have to feel like it was as the classic films were. This was a good character narrative, but didn't have the best plot.

I've only seen the remake (i've gotta rectify that) it wasn't the greatest movie in the world though as a character piece I suppose it was pretty good.

Okay, because I was going to say that Skyfall felt more like a character narrative than a plot-centric film, plus it borrowed components from that film (even if it had more of a "Batman influence"). I didn't prefer this for a Bond film, but for what it was, it did it well.

Someone asked on IMDb why people call this the best Bond film ever. This was my response (sorry if anything is repeated from before):

As for me, beautiful beautiful cinematography and great throwback elements. Unfortunately, I preferred the modern elements of Casino Royale that just weren't present here, and I wish we got some return items like Quantum, Felix, Mr. White, etc. in this film. It felt too detached from CR and QoS, almost as if those were a two-part prologue to a Daniel Craig James Bond trilogy that is set to be. This was part one, and it was classical in tone.

I think it was missing that one action piece or emotional punch midway through the film, but the pacing made up for a lot of it, making any action scenes pretty fun and "edge of your seat" gripping. Perhaps the opening scene being what it was made everything else feel like a little bit less of a feat.

Not my favorite (CR will remain on top), but I think it was a technically superior film as far as production value and as a Bond film, and it was head and shoulders above QoS.

                                Re: Skyfall

Yeah, I read some of the IMDB reviews. There seems to be a definite split between those who love it and those who hate it. I agree that it doesn't quite have the elements of a Bond film but I think this movie was trying to get to the psychological heart of what makes Bond tick. It's not something I want to see in every Bond film but as a 50th anniversary flick it did a fine job of exploring Bond from the emotional and character aspect.

Think of it this way, we usually see Bond as being completely in control of himself as the suave debonair man who can handle himself in every situation but this movie breaks all that down and you see the inner workings of Bond and you see that beneath that shiny veneer that he's really just like anyone else with human frailties and fears. You definitely see the "clock ticking" on him as he feels he's getting old for the job (in fact, Craig was a bit worried about the long delay between QoS and this film as he felt that at 43 he was already old for the role) and the stress that comes with it.

I can see the Batman influence but it doesn't quite work as Silva doesn't have the emotional cache that a "flipside of the coin" type of nemesis would require. It's a damn shame that SPECTRE and Blofeld's rights are owned by someone else as I think Blofeld is the perfect villain to fill the role that Silva was meant to be on a psychological level.
