Re: Skyfall
I'm in London, England at the moment. It opened up yesterday and I will try to see it today or tomorrow.
My favorite bond theme was from "The Spy Who Loved Me", Nobody does it better...Comment

Re: Skyfall
I tried to view this movie in London over the weekend and was unsuccessful. It was sold out everywhere! Monday I left early for Dusseldorf, Germany. Been stuck there waiting for my flight back to New York City. Skyfall opened here in Germany today and I was able to view an English version.
The movie was good but not great. I would look at this film as a reboot of the franchise in a way with the addition of many key characters from the original films.
Now what I enjoyed about the film...
SpoilerBardem's character was great. What a great idea for a villain, another James Bond. I mean who could beat James but James himself or another agent much like himself. However the plot comes up way short of what great things this new antagonist could have been in this movie and who he could have become in future installments.
There were plenty of jokes and humorous moments throughout the movie. There were some elements that brought back memories from the original Bond Movies. Which made it fun and entertaining.
Now what I did not like about the film...
SpoilerThe story was a bit of a let down. I thought it could have been better conceived and more thought out. It basically followed the script of many mastermind villain movies where they are caught only later to find out that they wanted to be caught.... You get the idea. Everything was cool till up to the point where the mastermind is "captured". Then it falls on its face many times story wise, though entertaining.
In my opinion this new antagonist could have been the recreation of Ernst Stavo Bloefeld for future installments. However they waste a great idea with poor writing.
All in all it does not live up to Casino Royale or On Her Majesty's Secret Service. However it was a better movie compared to Quantum of Solace (did not even finish watching that one it was so bad to me). Its an entertaining movie but not a great one. Story could have been significantly better IMHO.Comment

I wanted to see it at midnight, but I promised I'd see it with one friend who can't see it until next week. I'll probably bow out of the thread until then.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Skyfall
Its not a bad movie just not a great one. It has a lot of sarcastic comical moments and aspects from the original Bond movies but it falls short in a lot of areas when it comes to the story writing.
It has a great idea but misused it in my opinion.Comment

Re: Skyfall
I'm hearing the opposite from people and hearing its as good as CR. Others are saying its the best of the series.
Judging from the trailers I know the more stylistic cinematography is something that I will enjoy. CR didn't have too much of that going on, but there were flashes of it.

Re: Skyfall
Looking at the Critical acclaim is kind of shocking if you ask me because this movie is no where near the aggressiveness that is Casino Royale and no where near as good in story writing as well.
I am absolutely dumbfounded that they would compare this movie to the Dark Knight or even Avengers.
Granted this movie was more "fun" but it had serious recycled story aspects from those movies and in my opinion does a worst job with it.
Not sure if the reason for the critical acclaim has to do with the recreation of many classic Bond characters being reborn or the sarcastic satire of past original Bond films. However on its own merit, it was not at such high level to receive those glowing reviews.
Looper blows this movie away easily...
Like I said it is a different style of Bond movie, reminiscent of the originals (Sean Connery Bond films). If you like that style then you will like this movie.Comment

Re: Skyfall
Went to a 6:30 showing last night with my dad and my wife. My dad is a fan back to the Connery days, and my wife ... thanks to me ... a more recent fan. All 3 of us walked out saying this movie was ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE.
Unreal action, very deep and moving too ... not just action for the sake of blowing things up and keeping you interested. I woke up thinking about this movie, it was THAT good.Comment
