See, I would have really liked the "purgatory" explanation if the creators hadn't specifically said like three years ago that that wasn't it. If the plan all along was that the island was purgatory, it could've been great. But over and over the writers tied the island to the real world (Widmore sends two boats there, Dharma people get there, etc.) making the purgatory finale unbelievable. There's no "ohhhhh" moment where everything fits with that explanation - there's still about a billion loose ends that never got tied up.

Anyone else excited about the three alternate endings?
I am, but in another way I am a little disappointed that we get them so soon. It sorta just allows the producers to say: "We don't know which ones you guys would like better, so here is one official ending and three others...you guys pick."Comment

Anyway, absolutely beautiful ending to a beautiful show. I will remember this show forever.Comment

We'll see. I'm not expecting much either way - I think, even if they're real, it'll just be different means to the same end.Comment

Re: *** Lost: Season 6 (Final Season) ***
Exactly. It's not just that they said it wasn't purgatory, it's that they consistently wrote the show to make the purgatory explanation as absurd and unbelievable as possible.IT'S GREAT TO BEA MIAMI HURRICANE"At exactly which point do we start to realizeThat a life without knowledge is death in disguise?"Comment

A little too sugary for my taste but I liked it.

What about Ben? He didn't die so that's why he didn't go in?Comment

I really hope they are fake endings. I thought the way it ended was the most beautiful ending imaginable. I could not have asked for a better ending to the show, and I don't want the ending to be "soiled" by seeing alternatives.Comment

Re: *** Lost: Season 6 (Final Season) ***
They weren't in purgatory until this final season. Everything that happened during the first 5 seasons actually happened. This season's "flash sideways" thing OFF island were their souls in purgatory, but they weren't able to move on until they each realized that they were dead. But they all didn't die on the island. Some DID make it off and lived their lives, but it wasn't until Jack "saved" the island were everyone else able to eventually move on.
Christian even said: "Some died before you, some died after" and we know when Jack died, we saw the plane leave the Island. Those people made it off the Island and lived their lives, but for their entire lives their souls were still locked in the "most important moments of their lives" - until Jack was able to save the Island show everyone that it was okay to let go and move on.Comment

So they didn't all die in the original plane crash? That's what the show led me to believe.Comment

Re: *** Lost: Season 6 (Final Season) ***
I gotta say I'm confused as hell. And right now, I'm pissed! Like someone mentioned, the writers said, emphatically, that the Losties were not in purgatory. And yet, they were?
Or was just the side-way's storyline pergatory with the Island being real?
Right now I feel like I just lost 6 years of my life.
I also feel like others that the writers changed their minds half-way through.
What started off as a great mystery featuring the Others, Dharma and cool scientific experiments ended in complete garbage.
So if they were all dead, where does Daniel and his time traveling come in?
What did it mean for those people that died from the time travel (ie, the red head). How about the sickness that some experienced when getting near the island?
So did Ben die with his mom and dad the day he was born?
But I guess it would explain why people couldn't get pregnant on the island - they were dead!!!
However, so much doesn't make sense at all. And if the producers thought "Hey, it's purgatory anything can happen" they can shove it up their butts!
Right now, I feel like that was one of the worst episodes yet. So many questions.
I'm hoping that with more time to digest it gets better.
But the ending I would have preferred would have been Desmond unplugging the hole, Smokie goes human, he's killed. This gives Ben the idea that his job is now open. He dives into the hole, comes out as smokie and the final scene shows Jack and Ben on the beach playing chess with another plane or boat crashing into the island and Jack saying "Here we go again".
That would have been cool.
But this whole purgatory explanation, to me, is a complete copout to explain crap the writers made up that they had no idea how to explain.
I mean, how does someone die of poisonous spiders and being buried alive in purgatory???Comment

I mean, I guess that ending was about the best they could do with the hole they've dug themselves into the past few seasons. Once they got away from focusing on Dharma and the mysterious Others, I feel like the show completely lost direction and spun out of control. Once the show got into ridiculous crap like the Tunnel of Light and the Locke Monster, about the only way they could wrap it all up was with a generic "eveyone's dead and now they're going into the light" type of ending.
I am ok with the ending since I had sort of figured that they were already dead and their souls trying to find peace. It's just one of those shows where this season I just sat back and enjoyed not trying to talk too much about it or even make conclusions.
I will say that I do still feel a bit confused with everything........but that is for another day.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 05-24-2010, 12:05 AM.Comment
