All of the off-island scenes in Season 6 take place in a sort of purgatory, after all the characters have died. For most of the season, the characters are unaware they're dead; this purgatory/parallel world is where they're working through the various issues they had while living. Thanks to Desmond (whose consciousness briefly crossed from the living world to purgatory), the characters in the church, Jack being the last, now know that they're dead and are ready to move on to the afterlife proper.

Everything that happens on the island in Season 6 (and everything that happened in Seasons 1-5) took place in "the real world" (ie, the characters were alive).

I've been going through the blu-rays and am about 3/4s of the way done with season 2. I don't think I ever realized how campy this show can be at times, but man Jack and Locke's interactions are hilarious. I can't get over the fact how much Locke resembles and acts like Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now. Plus, some of the situations feel like they came out of a 60s action adventure/sci-fi show. Still love Sawyer.

I still haven't seen the Hurley and Ben extra footage.

I've held out on getting the entire series because it's all on Netflix and I don't want to pay the price just for 15 minutes. I love the show, but that doesn't make sense.

But question 1 about Purgatory is the most infuriating thing to explain to people still confused over the show. They just don't get it.

Reminded me of just how much I miss Lost.
