I feel like Lost season 1 and 2 was more of the original producers path, and lost season 3-6 was more of the other 2 guys, Cuse and Lindelof. You can see a shift in the shows plot and central idea. To me this is where the show failed. Was the final a good episode. Yes it had great acting and great emotion and a decent script. Was it great in the grand scheme of Lost? To me, no. It showed that season 1 and 2 really played no purpose. In the grand scheme of things i can't really see black vs. white, good vs. evil. All I see is people die and eventually they move on to a better place.

Right along with you there. 1 & 2 had a definite path. When things got just...eye-rollingly strange, I just said "Naaahhh, this isn't sitting right with me. I know BS when I see it."

Felt like a Naruto series lol.

You freely admitted you stopped after watching 2 or 3, yet here you are spewing off as if you invested much into this show despite you "called the BS early?"

Feel free to interpret the show as you see fit. But don't act like you aren't doing your typical know it all routine. You apparently watched half the episodes of the series and somehow have a solid grasp on what most are discussing. So you're either full of **** and going on just to go on, or you're here to say, "I told you so" to anyone that would actually buy into that sort of junk.

The sooner we get past that, the sooner we can get back to discussing the show. But don't tell me to "don't be like that" when I'm doing what others have done previously and that's calling you out on your nonsense.

It's no different than the multitude of individuals that go into one game forum and talk on and on about the same thing over and over looking for attention.

This sums up the show perfectly:

If you saw Lost as a character-driven drama, then the finale was nothing short of brilliant.

If you saw lost as a science-fiction/mythology-based show, then the finale probably had you wanting to throw things through your television set.

Personally, I always viewed it as a character story. We've seen epic journeys of all of the main characters. Jack even went from being a man of science to a man of faith. And frankly, I loved the ending.

The Pilot was written by Damon, JJ Abrams, and another guy (can't recall his name at the moment). The third guy wasn't involved after the Pilot, and after episode three, JJ Abrams bolted.

This show has been Damon's baby since the get-go, with Carlton coming in after JJ left.

Edit: Actually, I think JJ left after the Pilot. I don't think he was involved with episode 3. The third guy was just credited with being a part of the show since he was the guy to pitch the Cast Away-version of LOST to ABC, and he collaborated with Damon and JJ for the Pilot episode.

The show had to shift gears at some point though, it was never meant to be a "plane crash survivors living on an island" the entire time. From the very start it was supposed to have sci-fi elements, they just didn't kick into high gear until much later than most of us expected.

I think so many people loved the first two seasons because it was more of the "Survivor/Castaway" mode and didn't shift to the Sci-Fi/Lord of the Flies until S4. It drew in a lot of people that normally wouldn't give a sci-fi show a chance. Plus the human element and characters were amazing S1-3. It was just great TV.

My first inkling of trouble came after the S3 finale. I was blown away by how good of an episode it was but it was easy to tell that the show would never be the same now that flash forwards were introduced.

It hurts a little to look back on it, but it's remarkable how much of the show was irrelevant.

S3: Main goal is to get off the island. Six get off, only to damn near immediately realize they have to go back.
S4: The Constant (people's brains jumping through time)
S5: Time travel (people actually moving through time)
S6: "Flash-sideways" aka purgatory aka spiritual closure

None of those things ultimately mattered, it was just the show running in a circle. The Oceanic Six got off the Island after three years of trying, only to return and we're right back to having everyone stuck on the Island and trying to find a way off.

Time travel was useless other than killing a few people off and explaining some mysteries. We ended up with everyone back in the same place they were before all the time travel nonsense started. Same goes for The Constant and brains skipping. And the flash-sideways, as we've discussed, didn't fit and was largely irrelevant.

Time travel and the flash-sideways were especially painful, so much wasted time.

If you break down what ultimately happened in Lost, the truly important stuff....

1. 815 crashes, passengers get to know each other and find ways to survive. Goal is to get everyone off the Island.
2. Hatch is discovered, Others are introduced. DHARMA, etc.
3. Ben vs Widmore
4. Jacob is introduced, followed by MIB. Their situation is explained
5. A candidate must replace Jacob.
6. MIB is killed, Jack saves the Island, world and escaping passengers on the Ajira flight.

Time travel, flash-sideways and The Constant stuff can be completely removed from the story and everything still makes sense, outside of when are characters killed off. Going into the series finale, the goal was the exactly the same as the pilot - get everyone safely off the Island. The new goal that was added was to save the island and in turn save the world. Neither of those were effected by the major story lines of S4-6 with the time travel, etc. Just so much wasted time in the final three seasons...

You are correct, I did some research Jeffrey Lieber is the guys name and he had the original idea of the Pilot. It is obvious that maybe Abrams had the best vision for the show, because after he left the path changed considerably.

That was by his choice. He COULD move on, but he isn't ready to move on. The whispers on the Island are people who HAVE to stay.
