I loved Lost. The characters, story, and the way it captivated me.......Not surprised by the fans responses.....Anyone looking for some good answers or just theories, try out screen rant. Helped me with some understanding.

In our 'Lost' Finale Explanation we address the questions that left fans confused and/or upset by how 'Lost' ended its run.

not to mention the Asian guy who tried to kill sayid was in "purgatory" this goes against the reason for purgatory in general i think right? That guy knew the losties for like 3 days or something, there is no way he was that connected to them that he would be in purgatory with them. The more things get brought up its like they said, lets tell the story of the bomb exploding and what would happen if the plane never crashed, then at the last minute they were like the heck with it, its purgatory. Add some dialogue by Jacks dad to explain it. im only partly kidding when I say that lol.

Why wouldn't he be in Purgatory with them? He is dead, too. He just hasn't "let go" yet.

Edit - To further that - we know his son was killed because of him being a drunk driver. He is now in the alt and he is with his son, but just because he has the means to "let go" and move on, he hasn't yet.

Or maybe he was just like Eloise and didn't want to let go for fear of losing a son.

It seems like the writers kinda dug themselves into a hole that they couldnt fix.
Lost is my favorite show ever, and I think the Idea just got way too big for the writers.

Cmon, really? They died because LOST had tragedy in episodes. They died to show that MIB was going to stop at nothing to get off the Island. They died because they needed the remaining characters to really hate MIB. They died because they needed the audience to really hate the guy.

Found this and pretty much follows what I feel.

We all have our mixed opinions now on what the island was, is and what this ending was about. The island was real. Yes Jack died right then and there. And Ben, Hurley and the rest of the Losties that remained on the island, stayed there until they passed hence Ben and Hurley calling each other good #1’s and #2’s. And Kate, Sawyer and the Losties that left the island on the plane lived out their lives until they died (or) the plane didn’t make it and they died in a crash. The alternate timeline was purgatory and the church was the pearly gates. When you die, time ceases to exist. Everyone in the alternate timeline died at some point. It does not matter when, because time is not a factor. Time is a concept made up by human beings. When you die, not only will you be in an afterlife with your ancestors, but also your children, your grandchildren, even your great-great-great-great-great grandchildren. As soon as you die time ceases to exist. This was the biggest event in each one of their lives and it meant so much to them so God wanted them to enter Heaven together as one.

The alternate timeline was showing what they all wanted to do with their lives, if given the chance. Jack wanted to help Locke, Sawyer always wanted to find and bring to justice the one who killed his parents, so he was a cop. Juliet wanted to save the babies that died on the island, so it was appropriate that she did Sun's sonogram and delivered the news that the baby was perfect. It's kind of like a catharsis for all of them, you know? I think it enabled them to move on...

Re: *** Lost: Season 6 (Final Season) ***

I liked the series finale although there were flaws. I'm happy we have closure for the characters but there are still lingering mysteries out there. It's easy for people to say it's a;; about the characters but this isn't the case. The mythology of Lost is a huge part of the show.

In the "flash sideways", the introduction of Jack's son threw me off. I didn't think this timelime was purgatory until the final 10 minutes. I loved the final shot of Jack's eye closing. I also liked it when Jack told Desmond "I'll see you in another life brotha".

I expect Disney to milk this franchise. There's still a lot of stories to tell in the Lost universe. You could continue the story with Hurley and Ben being in charge of the Island or you could introduce a whole new cast of characters.

I'm hoping once Darlton breaks their radio silence, Jeff Jensen gets to do a long podcast or interview with them. Here's one minor question I have from last night, how did Jack get out of the light tunnel? Considering he stumbled to the Bamboo field by himself, Hurley,Ben, and Desmond didn't help him up.

He got out the same way MIB's body did. I'm assuming once the water filled back up he sort of got washed out.

Just literally finished watching the final episode which I PVR'd last night with my Dad... wow. I seriously got emotional. I don't want Lost to end I've watched every single episode with my Dad since Lost began and I believe I was 11 then, now 17 almost 18, it's amazing how time flies by.

So I guess everyone was dead the whole time and the Hurley is now Jacob? So what happened to the plane Lapetus (hope that's how you spell his name) was flying? Did they all live? I'm so confused!

I really like how they made Jack walk to where he was found and made him die there by Vincent, nice touch.

                        I loved that line.

I have been a LOST die hard from the very beginning, and I liked the finale. Of course, it was disappointing to not learn some things, but there is no way that every person could have had all the questions they wanted answered to be answered. I loved the series for what it was and was generally happy with the way they ended the series.

They stayed true to the point of the show, LOST is about lost souls, not people being lost as in location. For me, that was important and the fact the flash sideways was a way for them all to move on and let go was powerful I thought.

A great series, I won't soon forget it.

P.S. Episode 3 finale is still my favorite episode of television that I have seen.

I liked some of the ending and hated it also.

They should have never done the ALT universe. In the ALT, the island was under water and they created it like that. So is that saying that the most important time in their life, which they created an ALT universe to meet again after they had all died, they wanted to get rid of it like it never happened?

You just went on about how these are the people in their life that mattered and the island was the most important part of their life. Then you erase that and make the island under water?

Just end it with Jack dying, the plane leaving, Hurley, Ben, and Desmond staying. That would have been a lot better ending.

I think what happened is that everyone figured out the purgetory angle. Then in order to not make it purgetory, they add in the ALT universe. Then the island isn't purgetory, but the ending they had in mind when starting is still there, just in a different form.

That ............ kind of makes sense. I could sit here and pick every little thing apart but I won't.

One day after, I'm at peace with how Lost ended.

And it was obvious why he couldn't be there - he grew up and looked too old to be cast in that scene and still fit.

But I'm not the one complaining about it.

It gives a deeper sense of the characters and how their lives were changed by the flight. There is no what-if - we saw what happened if the flight never crashed, so to speak. Just not in the sense some would like.

The characters didn't know they were dead. They thought they were alive. It was only until Desmond started doing his actions that they realized what happened.

This is the beauty of the show. I don't accept your interpretation as 100%, but that's what is so great about it - I don't have to. You can't be 100% right, and neither can I.
I disagree, you can be 100% right, and so can I.

The way I'm choosing to interpret the show is the bomb worked, created an alternate universe where they didn't have the flaws they did in the Island timeline. (Hence Jack resisting the island memories) Eventually they reenacted iconic moments from the island timeline to merge their personalities and the things they loved. There was no afterlife and no purgatory. I mean if it was purgatory, then how where they trying to prove they belong in heaven?

To me the message of the story was that life is about moments, and how even in the most perilous of circumstances, great things can still happen and you can still find each other.

And I'm kinda confused about Michael, is he an other?
