My "obvious" guess for an ending...

Jack and Ben sitting on the beach as "Jacob and MIB" respectively, watching a plane crash (maybe Oceanic) and mentioning how it all begins again.

While it would surely piss people off, I think it ties back to the theme of "choice". Jack chose to stay, Ben chose to stay, everyone else chose love, or meaning, or protection of an innocent, or saving lives of others, or what have you. In other words, there is no end. While "fate" might bring you to a point in your life, you ultimately have the choice of what, when, and where to go.

I doubt we'll ever get an answer to what the island truly is, and the consequences of letting MIB leave and/or Jacob letting the light go out will remain in question for eternity. Our characters will just choose to keep living the "lie".

That would be a pretty sweet ending

Edit: But in the end I think he is playing Locke to survive, will eventually betray him. i'm betting someone turns into the smoke monster.

"Widmore is not dead since Ben can't kill him. Ben actually saved Widmore by shooting him and therefore keeping not-Locke from actually killing Widmore.

Richard is not dead.

Ben ends up conning not-Locke and being a hero.....as there will be several heroes."

I forgot about the Ben-Charles "rules". Can't remember off the top of my head, but I believe they have rules dating back to that Season 4 episode when Ben shows up in his bedroom in the middle of the night?

I love Charles, so I hated to see him go out like that. Hope he is "around" for the finale.

EDIT: Then again, after Keame (sp?) killed Alex, perhaps the rules are out the window? Or they want us to think that is the case.

I always thought Ben meant that you weren't supposed to bring our families into this when he mentions how he "changed the rules."

And I don't think they couldn't kill each other like Jacob/MIB couldn't - but instead couldn't kill each other because they both knew the Island wasn't done with either of them yet, so the Island just wouldn't let them die. Once Widmore brought Desmond back to the Island his job was done.

This episode just reinforced my belief that the writers never had a true plan in place. Season's 1-3 felt like an entirely different show from seasons 4-6. The revealing of Adam and Eve just showed me that they wrote in an answer. Again the beginning of the show about a crash, survival and exploration of an unknown island was awesome. The sci-fi elements have really been blah to me. I guess I just put my expectations to high again, i truly thought they would spend more time exploring older versions of Jacob and MIB. For me, the the flashbacks exploring characters was awesome, the flash forward was very creative writing, but some episodes this season have left me shaking my head and saying really......really. FYI...I still like the show and will watch it till the end and plan on rewatching the whole series when it is over.

I feel the same way.
In the first 3 seasons I was still under the impression that everything could be explained by science (as the producers claimed at one point- and then recanted).
After that, they just put in a bunch of supernatural stuff to explain all the weird stuff.

I was so intrigued as to what the smoke monster was. Remember when Locke referred to it as a security system?
Well I think it's obvious the writers changed what smokie was half-way through the series.
Smokie wants to destroy the island! Why would he protect it?

Just like last night's episode. Ben turns bad again so he can have the island to himself. But then Locke reveals to him that he's going to destroy the island.
So wouldn't this mean Ben is going to do everything in his power to kill the MIB?

If I had known after season 1 that the numbers, smokie and all the other weird stuff would be summed up with "Magic!", I would have bailed.
And I don't think the writers were going that route at first. But the more ABC forced them to drag this series along, the more bizarre things they had to introduce and then it took a life of it's own.
I'm still very interested in the finale. But I have to admit that I've become progressively more and more disappointed with each episode this season.

One last thing. I'm really getting nervous that we'll never be shown who was in the cabin the night Locke and Ben visited Jacob.
Also, who was the 'eye' in the cabin when Hurley stumbled onto it?

I don't think this will ever be answered. I posted it a while ago and I think someone said as much via a podcast or something.

Are there any interesting theories regarding Richard from this other site? Can't figure out what his role is in all this. Can he really not die?
