Assuming that Jin is the "Kwon" then everyone on the list is male. Guessing only a male can be a "candidate".

That's not really true. The Dharma door was shown as meaning nothing in the on context in Season 5, but the numbers have never been explained.

But I don't expect people to stop using that same tired line either.

Good episode. We got some nice info. Interesting to see the 6 candidates have the numbers associated with them.

Sorry, I call bs on Lost and the producers here.

The Numbers are now officially the one thing that frustrates me with this show.

I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but I'm seeing right through this made up storyline to create some significance for the Numbers.

Everyone had a Number associated to them. How could Jacob know which people exactly mattered? The reality is he did not. If he knew which ones mattered, he wouldn't have written everyone's name on that wall and then have them crossed out when they died. That means that everyone on that wall was a potential candidate.

If everyone on that wall is a potential candidate then the Numbers mean nothing. It just so happens that they are the numbers associated with the remaining living men (assuming Kwon is Jin) on the Island. That's coincidence.

If by chance they find a really good explanation then I'll admit I'm wrong, but I don't see it happening. Jacob purposely brought Kate to the Island and she isn't on that list. Jacob purposely brought both Jin and Sun to the Island and only one is on that list. Maybe if time travel has something to do with it then ok, but it better be a great explanation or otherwise I'll just continue to call BS on trying to create a story line out of nothing.

We know Jacob has ALWAYS been bringing people to the Island trying to find "the one." It could just be merely a coincidence that those numbers were with characters we know. Faraday was also on the list - and he wasn't assigned one of the "numbers."

Plus - why are you led to believe that what Smokey is saying is true? And if it IS true - then it looks like Jacob was a prisoner just like Smokey.

However this is not consistent with new Locke since new Locke knew what real Locke's final thoughts were right before he died.
Yes, couple that with the "he is possessed" thing and I really hope there is something there.

Wouldn't it be possible that Jacob brought everyone to the island and gave them numbers later on?

Survival of the fittest, observation then deduction.... lots of ways that could have happened.

I'm not worried, I think there are enough ways they can explain this further that will make sense. Lots of ways they can go with it.

How could Locke be in the candidacy? He is dead.

Yes, but that's not my point.

I guess the question I have to ask is this:

What do you think having the Numbers being associated with a few Losties has to do with anything?

My assumption (and maybe I'm the only one thinking like this) is that the Numbers are being given this deeper story line because we are supposed to believe that Jacob always knew that those particular people linked to 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 are special. That those Numbers must mean something because we know the people.

But in actuality that only proves that the Numbers mean nothing. It's just coincidence. It's building a story when there's nothing there. To say that those particular people must be special is completely ignoring that many other names also had numbers.

Someone can say, "Yea, but those people died. These people are still alive. That's why they are special."

That's not true either or if Lost tries to say it is, it'll be nonsense. If those particular people were special then Jacob wouldn't have written down the names and numbers of the hundreds of other people on the cave wall. Why write them down so he could cross them out later if he already knew they were special?

No, the truth is Jacob doesn't know who is the right person. And the Numbers are purely coincidental. They are much like the Numbers on the lottery ticket, the Numbers on the jerseys of the kids playing soccer, the Numbers on the roofs of the police cruisers, the Numbers on the flight, the Numbers here and the Numbers there. Coincidence.

This has nothing to do with Smoky at all because he doesn't care about the Numbers. The producers do and by throwing the Numbers in there it's like they are fishing for people to say: "Oh, look there they are again. That must be what they mean!"

They mean nothing and I'm insulted that they would even try to make me think otherwise by throwing them out there during an incredibly important scene on the show.

These numbers were obviously assigned when the Losties first got to the Island (or perhaps before even). Locke was alive when he was assigned #4.

Yes, I know that - but why would those be Locke's odds? He is now crossed off the list.
