Great episode. Funny how in the same episode they mention the guy that blew himself up (forgot the name) and feature him in the flash sideways.

Anyone catch the exchange between Ben and his dad? Even in the LA X world there was an island with Dharma. Only this time Ben & his dad came back home. It will be interesting to see where that goes.

That was probably one of my favorite episodes of this show, EVER.

First of all, I love how the end was a COMPLETE contrast to the previous episode. They ended that one with the "dark" side and now this one with the "light" side. Such brilliance.

Second, the redemption of Benjamin was just wow. Not many times you can feel empathy for someone in a show who was a scumbag pretty much the ENTIRE series. You really felt his emotional attachment to his daughter (nice touch still calling her Rousseau!).

Third, Jack taking the reigns of being the bad-*** you wanted him to be since the first season.

This show is just ****ing brilliant.

Question:

Widmore was banished from the island... now, it seems like he is returning to "help" (from Jacob "someone is coming to the island").

How did he find the island NOW and what role will he play?

So was anyone else confused about Ben's relationship with his daughter in the other timeline? He didn't seem to really acknowledge that she was his daughter. Did he know? Did she know?

She wasn't his daughter, just someone he cared about.

Just like Jack has a son in the flash sideways and he doesn't in present.

Those LOST show replays are incredible. Some things shared:

-Dogan didn't kill Sayid not because he couldn't, but because he didn't want to tip his own balance the wrong way.
-Sayid has repeatedly turned away Nadia in the flash sideways.
-Nadia was the only person that could calm Sayid down from killing.
-Jack and Sayid don't know each other in the flash sideways.
-Claire was manipulated by the smoke monster.
-The smoke monster appeared to Jack and Claire as their father in past episodes.

That makes no sense then because what are the chances he'd meet a girl anywhere in the world that is exactly like his daughter, down to looks, mannerisms, etc in another timeline. I speculate maybe it was his daughter just like in the island timeline but he didn't even know it (and neither did she). Perhaps he had a relationship with a woman in the area and she just never told him. That would make much more sense.

Alex wasn't his biological daughter. He stole Alex from Rousseau and raised her as his own. In the alternate reality, she apparently was raised her entire life by Rousseau and never encountered "Dr. Linus" until he was her teacher.

She was already pregnant when she came to the island, unless I'm remembering wrong.

No wonder you're starting to hate the show. This doesn't make sense, but people being touched by a figure that can heal people with mysterious powers, ending up on a plane at the same time and surviving a plane crash, only to find a magical island that can move through time and heal the sick, get off the island and then realize they should be back on the island by staging ANOTHER plane crash to ultimately fight some black smoke monster/guy DOES make sense, right?

Pared - we've been through this before. Your argument is not a good one because even in the world of science fiction we demand some logic in area. Like for example in comic books even though we have fantastic, unbelievable hereos, their powers are always explained in some fashion.

So that argument is pretty much a pretty poor one considering one visit to any comic book, science fiction forum, etc is filled with fans arguing about the realistic elements of a fantastic and completely unrealistic comic, tv series or movie. And guess what, there is a reason for that. Because suspending belief is one thing, but suspending all sense of rationality and coherence is entirely another.

Her not being Ben's biological daughter has been a huge plot point for Ben's character and the overall mythology of the Others.

Great episode last night. Widmore came out of nowhere. All the major players seem to be getting in place for the final run of the show. All we need is Desmond.

Pared - here is what I'm saying. Spiderman would not exist in real life because it'd be highly unlikely to have a man who has the powers of a spider jumping around buildings and fighting villains. But if he were to exist in my mind then I could suspend belief enough to imagine a world where it could exist if a man were bitten by a radioactive spider and thus was given those powers.

So in other words, it appeals to the persons sense of unknown. As humans we are aware we do not know everything. That however doesn't mean that we ask for a sense of cause and effect. In other words we can suspend our systems of belief if given a viable and somewhat rational reason to do so. However asking a person to suspend all belief in logic and cause and effect shatters that attempt to suspend one's belief.

I think you are aware of what I'm talking about and are just being difficult. But if not hopefully the above explained it to you so that you now understand.

I have no problem suspending my sense of what I consider to be reality so long as certain boundaries of logic still apply but you simply cannot throw out all sense of reason, coherence and logic and still expect one to be able to believe in the product anymore. In other words we'll suspend our disbelief but not shatter it into a million pieces for a story. Some laws of logic and believability must remain in even the most fantastic stories or it goes from being a story into a trip into madness.
