              Just watched the trailer...

So much for the CGI being photorealistic; it was far from it. It was pretty good, but from all the hype the CGI was getting in this movie and the $300 million budget, I was expecting perfection. Also, the movie wreaks of the uncanny valley when I see some of those scenes with the blue aliens in them.

The movie may be good, but the CGI isn't as good as I expected.

Just so you know, the whole planet is CGI and you can't tell me that it didn't look photorealistic. The blue aliens looked about as realistic as blue aliens can look.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I actually didn't know that the whole planet was. That does sway my opinion on the CGI a lot more.

And I think the part with the aliens that looks off are the eyes. I can't describe it. I know they don't need to look like human eyes, but I think that's the most "fake" looking part of them in terms of CGI.

I really think the character-art of the avatars is going to keep a lot of people from really being in awe of this CGI feast.

I wouldn't doubt it. It kind of turned me off instantly but I'm warming up to it a bit more now. I think it probably has too much of that "family movie" look and creature design shown in the trailer, and people may have wanted to experience something a bit "grittier" in the teaser. I don't yet know this movie's tone, but they just may get that tone if they check it out.

Hopefully this movie is on an epic scale in more than one way. I would hate to see it only hit about 100 minutes, but I'd say it will be anything but that. I'm guessing anything below 2 hours and 30 minutes is probably unexpected, but it really depends on how much the story can stretch or attach people for such an enduring period of time. I just don't want to see these CGI efforts go to minimalization in the runtime column.

                        Looks freakin' awesome.

That title font, however, looks WAY too much like the animated series.

I was originally under the impression this was a 100% CG movie like Final Fantasy so when I watched the trailer I was absolutely blown away.

...but now after learning it isn't I'm not as excited about it.

Maybe it's the gamer in me, I don't know.

It does look pretty good though

Saw it, CGI looked good, better than what we've seen previously, but until I can grasp SOME context about what the hell the story is, I won't be interested in seeing this at all. With all the hype this is getting, and how little about the story I've found (all the news I hear is about the CGI), am I right to be wary that this is going to be another one of "those" movies, if that makes sense?
