Re: *** Survivor: Samoa (Season 19) ***
I'll have more tommorow but the ending was complete bull****. This reminded me of Survivor: Australia. Both were great seasons that had a really terrible ending.
Russell outplayed everybody from Day 1. It makes me sick to my stomach that the jury voted Natalie over him. The end of this season was the same as last season. The jury voted for the person that climbed on somebody else's back and just sat back while their alliance partner made all the major moves (ie. JT beating Stephen last season).
Somebody needs to tell Probst to stop these silly jury polls after the fact. People are unlikely to vote as if they were still on the Island because they have now seen all the confessionals/episodes on TV.
Russell's game was flawless. It's hard for me to give Russell the title of the clear cut best Survivor player of all-time because Hatch pulled it off when nobody else had played/seen the game before. It's almost like I have to exclude Season 1 from all the all-time discussions. If I could exclude Season 1, I do believe Russell played the best game of all-time (I might even have to say he did it better than Hatch but like I said, it's hard to compare anything to Season 1).
Russell was playing hard from the first moment he entered the game and he never stopped until the end. He kept the people he trusted until the end and his answers in the final TC were spot on. When Dave asked for his chance of winning, he could have said %100 but he said %55. His strategy was amazing. He was a perfect mental and physical threat. We all know about his mental game but he was also smart in being a hard worker and not winning an individual IC until the last challenge.
I loved watching Russell because I saw myself in him. I agreed with every single move he made in the game. You could tell Russell was upset at the Reunion and I don't blame him.
Outside of sticking with Russell until the end, Natalie and Mick did nothing to advance themselves in the game. This was the most lopsided final 2/3 in the history of Survivor. Russell was head and shoulders above the other 2 in terms of overall gameplay.
The majority of the jury is full of bitter pricks.Comment

Agree VanCitySportsGuy, it was such a letdown tonight, its tough to sit through such a solid season only to have the ending be so bad.Comment

Re: *** Survivor: Samoa (Season 19) ***
Just saw the finale for myself and my opinion remains, Russell got screwed and Survivor needs to figure out a new way to conduct the final vote. Maybe its weighted, 50% cast and 50% fans if that would work. Its just getting really old watching someone who should win lose in the end because the jury is full of a bunch of crying babies.
EDIT- Ohh and I cant stand that whiny *** Erik, just a pathetic display all because he got blind sided and voted off.Last edited by The Chef; 12-21-2009, 02:03 AM.Comment

Re: *** Survivor: Samoa (Season 19) ***
Where did you hear that at? I know if you go frame by frame when the faces are flashing during the promo for next season you see some familiar faces, ie. Rupert, Boston Rob, Coach, Ace etc. but even still you dont see Russell's face anyways. Secondly, you also see Richard Hatch's face and we all know that he cant do it either so Im assuming that whole thing was merely there for speculation and nothing more.Comment

Re: *** Survivor: Samoa (Season 19) ***
Heroes vs Villains was shot in September, so the other players will have no idea who Russell is. The fact that he was watery-eyed at losing (and so wanted the title of Sole Survivor) implies to me that Russell doesn't make it to the final vote in HvV (or as I prefer to call it, Survivor: Secret Wars).Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: *** Survivor: Samoa (Season 19) ***
I’m going to go all over the place here:
- I’ve had some time to think about Russell’s gameplay and I still don’t believe he made any mistakes. He saved all his snarky comments for the confessionals. He never made the game personal. While he wasn’t as happy go lucky as a person like Mick, he didn’t resort to any personal attacks to any of the jury members. Russell is everything I want in a Survivor player. He has a extremely high Survivor IQ combined with the fact he’s an extremely entertaining player. It’s going to be hard to top his record of finding 3 HII’s (2 without any clues). He smartly targeted early threats within his own tribe and made deals with people he thought who would have his back. He also was also good at making other players turn on their own alliance to his benefit.
- Mick and Natalie made very weak arguments as to why they deserved to win. Mick basically said he didn’t backstab anybody and Natalie said she aligned herself with a strong player and let Russell take the bullets. Russell was bang on when he mentioned the other 2 were high fiving him and congratulating him when people were leaving one after another. Through out the game, we heard players on the jury acknowledge Russell was running the show. The Ponderosa videos at cbs.com confirms this. The jury knew Russell played the best game yet they voted for Natalie. The only person who was reasonable was Shambo. She knew Natalie and Mick were worthless compared to Russell. I did crack up at Brett’s “Bro Date” question to Mick. Mick “I tickle your nose”. It was obvious the jury was bitter at how great Russell played the game. They simply didn’t want to reward the person that was responsible for ending their dreams of winning a million dollars.
- In a twisted way, the surprise ending is what makes Survivor "great". You can play the best game and still lose. The game is unpredictable. You can play and win Survivor in many different ways. You can win by being the nice guy (Ethan), you can win by making deals with everybody and than taking a d-bag bigger than yourself (Brian), you can win by coasting almost the whole game and than making a deal during the final IC (Vecepia), you can win by letting somebody else do the dirty work (Natalie, JT), etc…. While certain seasons have very unsatisfying endings, I would leave the current format alone. The producers added the fan vote to please the people who don’t like the winner.
- Survivor Samoa is in my top 3 favorite seasons of all-time. This season had the most eye candy and was full of blindsides. I’m also finally ready to declare Russell as my favourite Survivor of all-time. His gameplay matches what I have in mind. I also loved the fact he had no apologies for what he did. Russell made every episode memorable.
- The good news for Russell supporters is that he is on Survivor: Heroes vs. Villians.
Here is the cast list for next season:
Heroes: Colby (Australia, All-Stars) Rupert (Pearl Islands, All-Stars) Tom (Palau) Stephanie (Palau, Guatemala) Cirie (Exile Island, Fans vs Favorites) Candice (Cook Islands) James (China, Fans vs Favorites) Amanda (China, Fans vs Favorites) Sugar (Gabon) JT (Tocantins)
Villains: Jerri (Australia, All-Stars) Rob (Marquesas, All-Stars) Sandra (Pearl Islands) Danielle (Exile Island) Parvati (Cook Islands, Fans vs Favorites) Courtney (China) Randy (Gabon) Coach (Tocantins) Tyson (Tocantins) Russell (Samoa)
A tribe consisting of Boston Rob, Russell, Grumpy Randy, and Coach is a dream come true. Russell will have an edge going in because nobody else knows what kind of player he is. I feel like Candice, Sandra, and Danielle have no business being on the show. None of them were that memorable during their original seasons. The one player who newer viewers might not be familiar with is Tom Westman. This guy is one of the greatest IC players of all-time. He won 5 out of the 7 individual IC’s during his season. He also guilt tripped his alliance partner (Ian) in quitting during the final IC challenge thus giving him the victory.Comment

Re: *** Survivor: Samoa (Season 19) ***
This is the first Survivor I watched all the way through in a long time and Russell only screwed up by telling Brett he'd force a tie with him and Mick, I think Brett held that against him. Disgusted by the vote but it seemed kind of predictable.
Eric seemed so happy at the fall of Galu but then didn't vote for the guy that made it happen. What a joke.Comment

Re: *** Survivor: Samoa (Season 19) ***
Russell's only mistake was taking Natalie to the jury. He should've went with Jaison and Mick. I think he would've won that vote.
Erik spoke last and really lobbied hard for Natalie, which is ironic since her one big move was urging Galu to vote him off. I wonder if Eric swayed anyone on the jury? The final Survivors should get the last say with a closing statement.Comment

I agree, once Eric said what he said I knew Natalie was winning..Comment

Re: *** Survivor: Samoa (Season 19) ***
-I love how there's not a single "Hero" from Samoa. I have to wonder if they even deemed anybody besides Russell as worth having back for another season. He might be the only one of this cast that they asked, and I can't say I would've blamed the producers for that.
-Something else that's been bugging me since last night: I know it's impossible to know, and I know he had to leave early, but does anybody else think Not Evil Russell was coasting towards a million before he had his medical issue? I really think, after spending the finale last night reminiscing about the entire season, that he had the whole game wrapped up before the merge, that he would'nt have allowed the Galus to start going after each other until they had to, and I feel like he would've been the guy winning the mil last night. Probably the extra 100k too.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

There is so much we don't see so it's hard to know. All 9 jury members were together at their camp talking about who they want to vote for. A lot of info comes out that others may not know.Comment

Re: *** Survivor: Samoa (Season 19) ***
I'm still bitter about the finale but as they say, what's done is done.
I see a full cast list was posted but I'm curious to hear where that list came from as I've also seen a list that didn't have Tyson or Russell on it. When did they start filming season 20? I thought it was right after the final episode so is it even possible for Russell to be involved if that's the case? I sure hope he's there but we will see.Comment
